Physical Requirements |
Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment in a laboratory setting.
Responsible for following all procedures to conduct work activities in a safe manner including but not limited to wearing
PPE required for specific duties and safe handling of chemicals as outlined by University policies and/or the supervisor. Responsible for immediately reporting any unsafe conditions to the supervisor and/or Environmental Health and Safety. |

This position is funded by a Picker Interdisciplinary Science Institute grant, awarded to Professors Geoff Holm and Ana Jimenez. The position is funded for one and a half years. |

Accountabilities |
Accountable for assisting with laboratory maintenance and supporting Picker
ISI-funded research investigating the effects of age, breed size, and cellular metabolic phenotype in oncolytic virus susceptibility in dogs. In this capacity, the technician will assist with supply ordering and inventory maintenance, culturing and maintaining canine fibroblast cell lines, and monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and biological samples. Additionally, the technician will assist with or conduct experiments, in association with other lab personnel.
Specific Responsibilities may include:
- Maintain and monitor laboratory equipment, including incubators, water baths, pipettors, and glassware
- Maintain and monitor laboratory reagents, including canine fibroblast cell lines, media to culture the cell lines, biological samples derived from the cells, and other associated reagents.
- Assist with supply ordering and maintenance
- Assist with or conduct experiments, as designed by or with the principal investigators or other lab personnel.
Accountable for adherence to Colgate University's laboratory safety policies, practices, and procedures that ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and faculty.
Accountable for staying current with relevant regulations (e.g. health, safety, care, and otherwise) and availing oneself of relevant training offered by Colgate's EH&S office. |
