The Division of Transportation Planning & Management (TPM) seeks an organized and collaborative candidate to assist and lead initiatives related to the NYC Streets Plan, NYC DOT's five-year transportation plan to improve the safety, accessibility, and quality of the City's streets for all New Yorkers. Reporting to the Director of NYC Streets Plan, this position will assist in the development of the next five-year Streets Plan and annual update reports. The Assistant Director will be responsible for maintaining tracking of progress toward the Streets Plan goals, including working with various internal planning and implementation units. The Assistant Director will also lead efforts to improve internal project process mapping, create an evaluation process for past projects, and conduct research on best practices in peer cities. The candidate should have experience creating reports, managing data, and conducting evaluations and research. Experience coordinating work across multiple teams within an organization and familiarity with NYCDOT street redesign projects is also desired.

Under the guidance and direction of senior staff, the Assistant Director will work closely with NYCDOT divisions to track street design work, document internal processes, and coordinate planning of the Streets Plan and annual updates. The ideal candidate is effective at writing and communicating to both technical and general audiences, has strong analytical skills, and an interest in process investigation, documentation, and improvement.

TPM is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working and doing business in New York City. The Division's responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate strong creative and analytical problem-solving skills and have experience in transportation planning and street redesign. Experience leading projects, managing data, writing reports, conducting research, and strong verbal and written communication skills are also desired. Experience or interest in database management, ArcGIS, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Adobe Creative Cloud are desirable.

Hours/Shift: 35 hours/9 am to 5 pm

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; or

2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to "1"" above. Graduate
education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.

Special Qualification Requirements

Assignment Level III
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, one additional year of professional experience as described in "2" above.

Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, two additional years of professional experience as described in "2" above.
