Job Overview

The Specialist, Outbound Transportation, oversees store delivery transportation and furniture and bedding home delivery from one of Macy's store delivery centers (SDC). This role may also include responsibility for any delivery hub operations supporting the store delivery center. Collaborating with SDC operations and dedicated or third-party carriers, the Transportation Specialist optimizes outbound deliveries for speed, cost, and service. They report directly to the Manager, Outbound Transportation.

What You Will Do



  • Coordinate store/furniture delivery transportation for one of Macy's Delivery DC's and any associated delivery hubs in the service area.
  • Analyze delivery schedules, consolidate routes, and make driver adjustments to maximize cubic space and control costs.
  • Utilize Macy's Transportation systems to create and maintain all routings and appointments.
  • Plan and optimize daily and weekly routing plans with carriers, and deploy drivers to other jobs and assignments to enhance utilization.
  • Communicate transportation plans and policies to store operations and address questions and concerns.
  • Monitor all customer furniture satisfaction delivery scores, work with carriers and Customer Care to understand concerns, and develop action plans for improvement.
  • Manage all equipment repair requests, working with onsite 3PL service provider to ensure repairs are performed in a timely manner.
  • Use reporting tools provided by the provider to audit repair trends and make recommendations on equipment needs and maintenance to ensure DOT compliance and safety.
  • Leverage data and analytics to identify opportunities for cost and performance improvement.
  • Manage the performance of dedicated and third-party delivery providers through key performance indicators.
  • Assume all manager responsibilities in the absence of the Transportation Managers.
  • Audit all carrier invoices, resolve any billing issues with the carrier, and submit for payment.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute all documentation needed for carrier deliveries.


Skills You Will Need

Transportation Management: Proficiency in coordinating store/furniture delivery transportation and overseeing operations at delivery centers and hubs.

Planning and Optimization: Skill in planning and optimizing daily and weekly routing plans with carriers to enhance operational utilization.

Communication: Effective communication of transportation plans and policies to store operations, addressing inquiries and concerns promptly.

Data Analysis: Utilization of reporting tools to analyze repair trends, make equipment recommendations, and identify opportunities for cost and performance improvement.

Transportation Management Tools: Working understanding of transportation management tools such as Blue Yonder.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Effective collaboration across various departments for streamlined operations.

Analytical Decision-making: Ability to make data-driven decisions to optimize transportation operations.

Strategic Planning: Proficiency in planning and executing strategies to address transportation challenges and optimize operations.

Problem-solving: Capacity to identify and address issues promptly and directly to ensure smooth operations.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.

    • 3-5 years' experience in Supply Chain, Operations, or Transportation

  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel.
  • Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms.
  • Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs.

Supply Chain Only and Colleagues Working in a Supply Chain Facility except in locations governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement:

Random drug testing for all colleagues will be conducted on a monthly or semi-monthly basis, depending upon factors including but not limited to the size of the facility and the number of colleagues on roll. Colleagues will be randomly selected for testing by a third party. Testing must be completed on the same workday the colleague is informed of selection for testing, absent extenuating circumstances. In all circumstances, testing must be completed within 24 hours of notification.
