National Grid is hiring a Director of Policy Communications and Campaigns. The role can be located in either our Washington DC, Boston, MA, Waltham, MA or Brooklyn, NY office.

Job Purpose

The Director of Policy Communications & Campaigns will have a track record of developing and executing successful communications strategies that influence public perception and stakeholder engagement. Working closely with the Group Corporate Affairs Public Affairs & Policy team(s), this role will focus on shaping the narrative around the company's policy positions and ensuring consistent messages that align to National Grid's overall position.

Key Accountabilities

* Develop and implement communications strategies that advocate the company's position on a wide range of key policy issues, to deliver on business objectives.
* Collaborate with colleagues across Corporate Affairs' specialist functions (the wider Communications & Brand team, Public Affairs & Policy, and Social Impact & Community Engagement) and Corporate Affairs Business Partners to understand key policy changes and how they impact local, regional, and company-wide operations.
* Work closely with the Public Affairs & Policy team, to keep abreast of changes in the policy and regulatory environment, to adjust communication strategies and ensure that National Grid is consistent in how it communicates in response to change.
* Build strong relationships with key media and others to ensure that National Grid has strong effective access to gain coverage for National Grid's position in response to key policy shifts.
* Support executive leadership and senior leaders in the business in preparing for policy-related communications.
* Position the company's leadership and subject matter experts as thought leaders on relevant policy issues through public speaking opportunities, industry forums, published content, and op-eds.
* This position will have a dedicated storm/ emergency response role.

Qualifications

* Proven track record of developing and executing successful communications strategies that influence public perception and stakeholder engagement.
* Strong understanding of the political and regulatory landscape affecting the energy industry, with the ability to navigate complex policy issues.
* Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
* Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence key stakeholders.
* Experience in crisis communications and managing communications during high-pressure situations.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms.
* Bachelor's degree/experience or equivalent qualification.

Washington DC $180,000 - $212,000 a year

Downstate NY $193,000 - $227,000 a year

New England MA $180,000 - $212,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
