DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Nurse Aide at SCI Laurel Highlands, you will deliver care to inmates under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Your responsibilities will encompass performing essential nursing skills and procedures to ensure the health of the inmates, as well as providing quality care and maintaining necessary documentation. You will be tasked with collecting specimens, such as urine, feces, and sputum, as instructed by the Registered Nurse. Additionally, you will assist inmates with daily living activities and hygiene to address their basic physical care needs. Your role will also involve engaging in life skills programming by adhering to nursing care plan directives, delivering care tailored to inmates' needs, and documenting relevant aspects of the nursing care plans. Furthermore, you will be required to respond to emergency situations by executing emergency procedures, including CPR, and participating in assigned emergency response drills.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You will have rotating days off.
    • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM
    • 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM
    • 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry; or
  • Six months of paid experience in the care and treatment of geriatric or physically ill patients or residents.

Special Requirements:

  • This position is assigned to a long-term or specialized care facility and requires active registration as a Nurse Aide in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
