We are actively seeking an attorney to serve as ERISA Counsel for our employee benefit plans and our insurance products and services. This individual should have strong analytical and written communication skills who is diligent, proactive, collaborative, and has demonstrated sound legal and business judgment. This role in the Office of General Counsel will support our product divisions and the enterprise. This role will be hybrid (4 days a week in office) in Newport Beach, CA.

How you'll help move us forward:

  • Provide legal counsel and support on matters related to welfare benefits plans, retirement plans, and employee benefits.
  • Ensure compliance with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and other relevant federal and state regulations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate plan documents, amendments, and other related agreements.
  • Advise on plan design, administration, and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Counsel our insurance product divisions, such as the Institutional Division and Workforce Benefits Division regarding ERISA implications of our products and services.
  • Conduct legal research and stay updated on changes in laws and regulations affecting employee benefits and retirement plans.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including HR, finance, and management, to address legal issues and provide strategic guidance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of employee benefits policies and procedures.
  • Handle inquiries and disputes related to employee benefits and retirement plans.
  • Embrace opportunities to expand expertise into other corporate legal areas, including employment law and contract review.

The experience you bring:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in at least one state.
  • 2-3 years of experience in ERISA and employee benefits in a corporate legal department or law firm.
  • Strong knowledge of retirement plans , welfare benefits plans, and related regulations.
  • Experience reviewing and drafting a wide variety of benefits-related documents, including plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and amendments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; adept at prioritizing work and providing advice under deadlines; a focus on business enablement; and experienced in translating complex policies and laws into practical business controls.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrates high ethical standards.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$148,230.00 - $181,170.00
