Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned) Assist the Houston Retail and Gov/Reg teams in daily activities. This role will report to the Assistant General Counsel of Legal, Retail and will interact with various members of the Champion Energy Services, LLC, Calpine Energy Solutions, LLC, North American Power & Gas, LLC, and Good Charlie & Co., LLC teams in Houston and San Diego. In this role, the Senior Contracts Analyst is responsible for supporting the management of contracts across all of Champion's product lines and for providing comprehensive paralegal support to Champions' attorneys. This position requires an individual with a strong contract management background, well-developed project management skills (including excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills) and the technical expertise necessary to understand and communicate issues associated with energy contracts. Job Responsibilities
- Conduct legal and factual research on assigned issues; review and analyze existing and/or proposed rules, regulations, and programs pertaining to state and federal regulatory agencies, company and corporate records; provide conclusions and recommendations to attorneys.
- Assist Retail Legal with regulatory reporting and compliance functions.
- Analyze and timely responding to customer complaints, working across departments to help implement functional changes as needed.
- Perform first review and mark-up of Retail vendor agreements.
- Draft contract documents (addendums, amendments, etc..) for attorney approval.
- Serve as primary stakeholder for Champion, NAP, and Good Charlie vendor management software (Coupa).
- Manage DocuSign for all Retail agreements, as supervised by Retal Legal.
- Review and update customer documents and retail agreements.
- Investigate various customer bankruptcies and determine if legal action is warranted or viable.
- Prepare preliminary responses to state agency interrogatories.
- Coordinate with back-office departments to ensure proper processing of contracts.
- Perform contract template modifications to accommodate regulatory and market specific requirements
- Draft contract documents (addendums, amendments, etc.) for attorney approval.
- Independently edit and review company correspondence, marketing materials, and customer facing reports.
- Assist attorneys in the development and implementation of new commodity products.
Job Requirements
- A bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Business, Finance, or Economics; Paralegal Certification preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years post-graduate work, a minimum of 2 years contract administration or paralegal experience preferred.
- Ability to independently manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines on a timely basis with high degree of accuracy, strong analytical and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced business environment, process oriented. Effective communication skills including clear and concise written and oral communication; strong interpersonal skills.
