JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position provides in person interpreting services for a student who is deaf in the classroom, school or school sponsored activities (sports, theater, clubs).

The Educational Interpreter is a part of the student's school team. They have the freedom to act within Departmental and UVM Medical Center policy to maximize services to students and school districts. They must follow a professional code of ethics, regulations, and laws as they pertain to interpreters and student rights. They receive guidance from the Supervisor of the ASL/Bilingual Unit and peer support from the other Educational Interpreters, Communication Facilitators, Sign Support Providers and other EHDI Staff. The Educational Interpreter is required to provide services in person and prefer that the candidate resides in or close to Addison County.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree preferred or High School Diploma or Equivalent, with minimum 2 years relevant college or professional training or equivalent experience required or Native ASL user.

Professional: Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 4.0 or higher preferred or credentialed by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).

Successful completion of a formal program in American Sign Language / English interpreting, preferred

EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years of formal educational/medical interpreting, with demonstrated knowledge of educational specialties.
