The Role

The Training Within Industry (TWI) Trainer is responsible for delivering hands-on TWI instructions; specifically Job Instruction (JI), Job Methods (JM), and Job Relations (JR) - to operators, leads, and supervisors at QuidelOrtho's Rochester sites. This role focuses on training employees to perform their jobs safely, correctly, and consistently using standard work. The TWI Trainer works closely with the TWI Manager, QIC Team, area supervisors, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure training effectiveness and support sustainable skill development and continuous improvement.

This position will be onsite at our Rochester, NY facility.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver TWI training sessions (JI, JM, and JR) in classroom and on-the-job settings across all shifts as needed.

  • Work with production, training, and quality teams to create, update, and maintain Job Instruction Breakdown sheets (JIB) and other standard work documents.

  • Support the consistent application of standardized work and job instruction practices across departments.

  • Reinforce TWI principles through follow-up coaching and support of newly trained employees and leaders.

  • Assist in identifying and documenting best practices in job methods and opportunities for improvement in training content.

  • Observe and evaluate on-the-floor performance to assess training effectiveness and provide feedback to team leads and supervisors.

  • Support onboarding and cross-training efforts by ensuring job instruction is delivered properly and sustained.

  • Track and report training coverage, skill certification progress, and performance improvements resulting from training efforts.

  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives and problem-solving efforts to support workforce capability building.

  • Maintain training materials and documentation in alignment with QuidelOrtho's SOPs, quality, and safety standards.

  • Serve as a role model for standard work, continuous improvement, and positive working relationships.

Individual

Required:

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in training, operations, manufacturing, or related field. Significant experience >15 years will be accepted in lieu of the educational requirement.

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, operations, or training capacity

  • Experience delivering hands-on job training in a production environment

  • Strong communication and facilitation skills; able to effectively train diverse learner groups.

  • Familiarity with Lean tools and standard work concepts.

  • Ability to write clear job instructions and break jobs down into teachable elements.

  • Skilled in coaching and follow-up support to ensure knowledge retention and performance improvement.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), preferred.

  • Organized, proactive, and enthusiastic about teaching and developing others.

  • Ability to maintain training records and communicate results effectively.

  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Preferred:

  • Exposure to TWI JI, JM, and JR methodologies or equivalent structured training systems, preferred.

  • Experience in life sciences, medical device, or FDA-regulated environment, and internal processes, preferred.

Work Environment

This role is based at the Rochester manufacturing campuses and requires significant time on the production floor. Office work and training sessions will occur in both classroom and on-the-job environments. Training sessions may occur on multiple shifts to support site-wide implementation. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in production areas.

Physical Demands

Position requires ability to lift up to 30 lbs. on occasion. Up to 50% of time at production environment or lab, walking, standing, and sitting for periods of time are routine to accomplish tasks in this role. Position requires use of Personal Protective Equipment as posted.

Salary Transparency

Salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including: education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on that facts and circumstances of each case. Salary range for this position is $80,000 to 108,000 and is bonus eligible. QuidelOrtho offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, along with a 401(k) plan, employee assistance program, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off (including sick time) and paid Holidays. All benefits are non-contractual, and QuidelOrtho may amend, terminate, or enhance the benefits provided, as it deems appropriate.
