Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job :
Under the direction of the Vice President for Student, Academic and Workforce Success (VP- SAWS), the Assistant Vice President for Career, Technical and Workforce Education ( ASVP- CTWE), provides oversight and leadership for academic and workforce development divisions at the College. The ASVP- CTWE leads, coordinates and/or assists with development, implementation, and evaluation (for continuous improvement) of all strategies, processes and operations that support career, technical and workforce initiatives, partnerships and programs, and fosters student success outcomes for a diverse student body. The ASVP- CTWE serves as a key liaison to business and industry and collaborates with CTE and Workforce deans, faculty, and staff to identify and create the conditions that support the regional labor market to identify current and future skill needs, and closing student achievement gaps. The ASVP- CTWE will work collaboratively with the MCC Leadership Team to implement, guide, and promote academic and workforce success and teaching and learning strategies that serve as a comprehensive, integrated approach toward enhancing and improving the persistence, retention, and graduation rates of Mott Community College students.
Supervisory Responsibility:
The ASVP- CTWE will supervise Career and Technical Education and Regional Talent Initiatives instructors and staff, the Deans of academic and WED divisions, one (1) full time Administrative Support, two (2) Professional-Technical staff, Directors, additional consultants, contractors, and/or student workers assigned to related projects and any administrative and professional-technical staff, along with consultants, contractors that may be assigned to support them.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Master's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience. (Equivalency is Bachelor's degree plus four (4) years of related experience).
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership and supervisory experience in post-secondary education, the business or public sector, or a technology-based industry.
  3. Minimum of three (3) years' experience in career and technical education, curriculum design, and/or a workforce training/development management role; can be concurrent with #2.
  4. Must have two (2) years supervisory experience, including hiring, developing, and managing employee performance, can be concurrent with #2.
  5. Documented success securing funding through outside resources (grant, earmark, foundations, etc.)
  6. Demonstrated budget management experience - including budget maintenance of projects of similar size and complexity
  7. Knowledge of how to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and a wide range of business, industry, and community partners.
  8. Leadership abilities demonstrated by collaborative, innovative activities related to organizational or program change
  9. Experience in analytical systems, assessment, institutional research or decision support planning
  10. Knowledge of and experience in interpreting state and federal regulations as well as pending legislation impacting research, accreditation, and overall assessment.
  11. Must have experience working with a diverse student population and demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of the broad spectrum of individuals representing the College and staff populations.
  12. Good organizational skills identified by project management, time management, and priority setting.
  13. Willing to travel periodically to support College initiatives.
  14. Capable of interacting with the business/industry and educational community
  15. Demonstrated interpersonal, written and oral communication skills essential, evidenced with a wide range of business partners
  16. Strong entrepreneurial attitude is essential.
  17. Exceptional ability to build relationships with employees at all levels of the organization and perform in a broad range of environments including academic and business.
  18. Proficiency in a variety of computer software applications, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  19. Demonstrated team-oriented managerial skills required.
  20. High personal and professional ethical standards.
  21. Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  1. Earned Doctorate Degree
  2. Teaching, curriculum development or academic leadership experience in a community college setting.
  3. Experience developing and managing CTE, and Workforce programs (federal, state, and local) including developing programs and curriculum that integrates credit and non-credit, and/or competency-based education.
  4. Experience in program accreditation processes.
  5. Experience writing and managing grants, meeting timelines, and demonstrating knowledge of compliance.
  6. Professional affiliation/contacts with regional or national training or technology groups
  7. Supervisory experience in a unionized work environment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  1. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
  2. The person in this position needs to move about both inside the office and at other locations where events are conducted.
  3. Frequently operates a computer, telephone, peripherals, and mobile devices for extended periods of time.
  4. Frequently communicates with others over the phone and in person; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  5. Occasionally moves tables, chairs, equipment, and carries boxes of supplies weighing up to thirty (30) pounds.

Work Schedule
Full-time, Exempt position. The Assistant Vice President will work a flexible schedule to meet requirements of divisional operations, schedules of business partners, committee obligations, travel, etc. and to build effective long-term relationships with constituent organizations. Evenings and weekend work, local, regional and national travel required on occasion.
