WBS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Safety Consultant primarily supporting our subsidary Michigan Gas Utilities in our Coldwater, Allegan, Benton Harbor, Grand Haven or Monroe, Michigan locations.

Job Summary

The Safety Consultant is responsible for building working relationships with all levels of the organization and our contractors to ensure work is performed at company safety standards and all applicable workplace safety laws (i.e. OSHA). This position will perform field audits and observations to gather information, while consulting and advising on safety and health related items. In addition, they will actively work with business unit leaders and the Safety and Health team to identify, improve, reinforce, promote and recognize safe work practices.

This is a job family posting (Associate-Senior) where technical safety experience and education will be the determining factor.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure the effective implementation of safety policies, programs and procedures through auditing, inquiry and observation
  • Identify needs, develop, customize, provide and deliver safety training programs and materials to various levels
  • Analyze safety performance indicators to identify trends, improvement opportunities, or specific intervention needs and provide consultation on effective solutions
  • Serve on or lead various and diverse business unit and company-wide safety teams, projects and initiatives
  • Keep current and effectively interpret existing, new and emerging safety and health regulations
  • Assist with incident investigations and consult on recommendations to prevent new or recurring incidents
  • Support the selection, coordination, scheduling and auditing of third-party safety services (e.g. vendors, consultants, trainers)
  • Conduct exposure monitoring and implement industrial hygiene programs for various physical, biological and chemical agents to assure employee protection and regulatory compliance
  • Attain technical expertise in a broad range of subject matter relative to occupational safety and health, and industry best practices
Minimum Qualifications
  • The Safety Consultant level requires a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety or closely related field and 3-5 years of practical safety or related experience
  • The Associate level is an entry level position for which safety or utility experience in lieu of a degree may be considered. Note: Bachelor's Degree in Safety or related field is required in order to be hired into or progress into the Consultant/Sr. Consultant levels in the job family
  • Valid driver's license required. Will be required to use personal vehicle in the performance of duties (e.g. travel to district sites, occasional out of state travel, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certification, or the ability to gain certification such as an ASP/CSP, CUSP, CIH, CHST, or CHMM
  • Proven experience providing safety services in the utility industry desired
  • Practical knowledge of safety management systems desired
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)

End Date: 08/27/2025

Pay Range Minimum: $66,898.00

Pay Range Maximum: $132,708.94

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
