Carpenter 1 - Danville State Hospital

Pennsylvania takes great pride in being a part of the service continuum for individuals who have severe mental illness and substance abuse issues and continues to strive daily to provide optimal services for those in need. At Danville State Hospital, we are looking for a hard-working, experienced, and passionate individual to keep our essential facility up and running. As a Carpenter, you will perform skilled work in the carpentry and structural trades. This is your chance to develop your carpentry skills all while experiencing the benefits of working for the greater good!

No day is the same at Danville State Hospital, even in our maintenance department. You will perform structural trades work related to carpentry, masonry, plastering, locksmithing, painting, roofing, flooring, and concrete work. You will use your technical knowledge and experience in determining best methods and procedures in the various trades. Assignments are given orally or through the written MAPPER Work Order system. You may be required read and interpret blueprints, sketches, diagrams or manufacturers recommendations to lay out and complete job assignments. This is also an opportunity to take charge and lead work for semi-skilled or laborer workers.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work hours may change based on operational needs. Overtime may be required as needed.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the Building Trades Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Three years of experience in the construction, installation, repair, restoration, or maintenance of structures and articles made from wood, composite, and wood substitute materials; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

• A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
• This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
  • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
