Job Title: Team Leader - Cyber

Division: Underwriting Operations

Reports To: As per Beazley Org Structure

Key Relationships: Underwriting Manager, Underwriters, Brokers, Coverholders, Operation Leads, Operations Manager, Assistant Underwriters, Underwriting Assistants, UCO and external clients and suppliers.

Job Summary: To oversee a team of Assistant Underwriters (AU's) in writing qualifying renewal and new business risks whilst maintaining efficient underwriting processes and providing customer service to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Underwriting Support Management

  • Own the end to end qualified accounts process ensuring that pre-qualification, quoting, binding, and handling of accounts is managed by the team in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with Underwriting Manager to ensure AU's are trained in required underwriting disciplines so they can underwrite qualifying risks within timescales and to the required quality
  • Any resource constraints should be understood and flagged to your Operations Manager.
  • Ensure SLAs are frequently reviewed, updated and communicated based on changing business need.
  • Owner of team workflow tool, ensuring data is present, accurate and can be relied upon
  • Ensuring members of the team are producing the appropriate level of output, and any performance issues are appropriately recognized, challenged and resolved.
  • Host AU teams meetings, discussing capacity issues, training requirements, workflow status, and assist with any Underwriting manager led team meetings regarding training, etc.
  • Monitor, track and analyze renewal retention and new business progress as aligned with operational need
  • Lead other recurring meetings as required by the Operations Manager, deputizing when necessary
  • Consistently review work undertaken by your team, considering whether this should be managed internally or transitioned to an outsource provider. Where necessary, collaborate with Underwriting manager to manage internally or work with your Operations Manager to build a transition plan for outsourcing
  • Build and maintain personal development plans for all members of your team, collaborating with Underwriting Manager where underwriting development is needed, ensuring these are appropriately monitored and adhered to and discussed as part of bi-annual appraisals
  • Provide accurate management information to senior management team for onward discussion with the business
  • Produce weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual metrics on team performance, controls, workflow, capacity, platform output, etc.
  • Produce ad hoc reports, presentations and marketing literature for senior managers, and other members of staff as requested
  • Provide a professional service to brokers in person, writing, email and telephone
  • Maintain and develop key relationships including brokers and external clients, responding to client queries in an accurate and timely fashion

Underwriting Support (as required)

  • In conjunction with the USC Underwriting Manager, Cyber Operations Manager, be responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives that support profit, growth, and retention
  • Manage AU volume by coordinating the assignments of USC accounts to ensure timely completion of quotes, binders, policies
  • Maintain knowledge of coverages and related underwriter guidelines trends and best practices
  • Highlight error trends that result in a need for additional training. Working with your USC Underwriting Manager and Operations Manager, coordinate delivery of bespoke training with USC Underwriting Manager and monitor performance over time.
  • Interact with other teams within Beazley, ie. Claims, Finance, Compliance, Management Services and other underwriting teams on matters affecting or related to accounts within the portfolio
  • Help maintain team standards through supporting other team members in achieving their service/quality levels and targets, as required

Team Management

  • Line management of staff
  • Conduct the interim and annual appraisals of your team
  • Monitor team capacity, working with Operations Manager to build headcount requirements based on anticipated growth volumes.
  • Ensure effective management of workload, holiday and cover across staff and team
  • Recruitment for team where necessary and coordinating training for new starters within the team
  • Manage accurate and efficient processing and handling of all designated work to SLAs where applicable
  • Review operation reports and flag issues to relevant operational managers
  • Deliver/assist with training and development effort to improve team performance and skills

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual's location and experience. The expected compensation range for this position is $67,700 - $74,470 per year plus discretionary annual bonus.
