Job Summary
The Accountant I - District Accounting position assists the Financial Services department with the district-wide chart of accounts, controls and direction. Assists in updating and creating cash flow accounting, controls and projections. Collects information and helps manage debt accounting controls, projections, and paperwork to satisfy the financial needs of the district. Wage: $60,019 - $86,156 (12-month)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Qualifications
Education Requirements:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university, in accounting, finance, or closely related field is required
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or MBA with specialization in Finance or a masters degree in accounting are a plus.
Experience Requirements:
- The position requires a minimum of one-year of accounting or related field experience.
- Knowledge of accounting, audit procedures and/or budgeting is a plus
A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Assists the area leads with the day-to-day operations for Milwaukee Public Schools cash flow report.
- Helps coordinate with the City of Milwaukee staff, the different aspects of treasury management towards the districts bank accounts, cash receipts and expense funding.
- Assists the area lead in creating next months, next years and next five years cash flow projections.
- Assists in keeping the districts chart of accounts under control, suggests better combinations for dimensions that may be improperly utilized.
- Helps monitor and improve the usage of the districts dimensions utilized in the chart of accounts and suggests corrections needed when mistakes are made or improper usage happens, preventing overlaps and duplications between such dimensions, and within each dimension itself.
- Assists in the controls and direction of the proper accounting for Fund 27s aidable and unaidable expenses, utilizing different tools to identify such expenses as well as the need to reclassify and place expenses in the right allocations.
- Helps coordinate with payroll for the proper allocation of each salary and payroll related expenses, as needed, to identify aidable and unaidable expenses as well as making correcting entries when appropriate for those employees who work predictable hours in Special Education throughout the year.
- Helps execute the proper reallocation of expenses for staff who work unpredictable hours throughout the year in Special Education and creates the entries to accurately record in the districts books.
- Enters, into BusinessPlus, account and expense reclassifications.
- Actively supports the MPS Strategic Plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
