Oral Pathology, Radiology and Medicine Department

Job Description

The Oral Pathology, Radiology and Medicine Department is seeking a part-time Adjunct Faculty member to provide clinical instruction in Oral Radiology. This position involves supervising and evaluating dental hygiene and dental students in radiographic procedures and radiographs, supporting clinical learning, and promoting best practices in radiographic technique and interpretation.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate student-acquired radiographs (full-mouth series, bitewings, panoramic, and limited series) for diagnostic quality
  • Determine the need for image retakes and discuss with the student. Order the retakes in axiUm when needed.
  • Approve diagnostically acceptable images in radiographic software and complete appropriate EHR documentation.
  • Provide written feedback and assessment of student self-reflections within EHR
  • Support student learning of radiographic prescribing criteria based on ADA-FDA guidelines
  • Employ varied instructional strategies tailored to individual student learning needs (e.g., verbal explanation, visual aids, diagrams)
  • Assist students with technical challenges and patient management issues, such as limited mouth opening, anatomical variation, and gag reflex
  • Facilitate the development of interpretive skills by discussing radiographic findings such as caries, defective restorations, and periodontal bone loss.
  • Supervise and lead the interpretation rotations when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Schedule:

  • Wednesdays: 1:00 PM - 4:30 PM
  • Fridays: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
    (1-hour lunch break: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM)

This position reports to the Oral Pathology, Radiology and Medicine Department Chair

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene
  • Current Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) license in good standing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student learning styles
  • Familiarity with dental radiology equipment, digital imaging systems, MIPACS and AxiUm.
