Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs

The University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Dentistry seeks applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs. The UMKC School of Dentistry's clinical program includes instruction for pre-doctoral, dental hygiene, and advanced education students working collaboratively in a comprehensive patient care environment.

The Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs position comprises administrative and faculty duties. The position is a senior administration leader who reports to the Dean, and is accountable to maximize the efforts of faculty, students, and staff in providing quality patient care in an optimum learning environment. Candidates should understand and support the university's vision, mission, and values and embrace a culture of respect and professionalism among faculty, staff, and students. This administrative role works to enhance the reputation of the School of Dentistry's (SOD) clinical operations in the community and among national clinical dental programs.

Administrative responsibilities include general oversight and supervision of the SOD clinical operations and compliance with all regulations and accreditation standards to include, but not limited to:

  • Clinical Operations and Compliance Oversight
    Provide strategic leadership and high-level oversight for all clinical operations, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and university policies, safety regulations, and Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.
  • Quality Assurance and Patient Care Excellence
    Oversee and regularly assess the quality of care across all patient care sites. Monitor patient satisfaction, manage incident reports and complaints, and ensure systems for continuous quality improvement.
  • Faculty and Staff Leadership
    Supervise clinic-related staff and faculty, including hiring, onboarding, training, calibration, and professional development to support a respectful and professional clinical learning environment.
  • Educational Integration and Student Assessment
    Collaborate with academic leadership to align clinical operations with educational goals, including student scheduling, evaluation, and faculty accountability in clinical teaching.
  • Health Record Systems and Administrative Collaboration
    Oversee electronic health records and work closely with business and administrative teams on clinical billing, data reporting, and regulatory compliance to ensure effective and efficient clinic management.
  • Other duties as assigned

This position includes a coexisting faculty position as a tenure-eligible Associate Professor or Professor, or, ranked non-tenure track Associate Clinical Professor or Clinical Professor.

Qualifications

A DDS/DMD and Missouri license or Missouri license eligibility is required.

Previous leadership experience is desirable.

  • In addition to the above, candidates for a tenure-eligible appointment should possess:
    • Advanced teaching experience and philosophy
    • Provide demonstrated potential for or provide evidence of research and scholarly activity, and
    • Demonstrated service to the profession and/or participation in local, state or national professional organizations.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a 12-month, benefit-eligible, full-time (1.0) faculty appointment eligible for tenure and promotion or ranked promotion.
