This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of our San Francisco office.

The Venture Capital Relationship Management (VCRM) team is a critical component of our innovation banking strategy, supporting business development, engineering complex transactions, and developing value-added solutions beyond traditional banking.

As a Managing Director in VCRM - Fintech, you will lead and shape the strategic direction of the team, drive significant growth, and cultivate high-impact relationships with industry leaders. Leveraging your extensive expertise in venture capital, corporate venture capital, and Life Science/HealthcareFintech and AI industries, you will identify and capitalize on transformative opportunities, significantly deepening the organization's presence and influence in the Venture Capital and Private Equity landscape while maximizing value creation and delivering new business.


Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Business Development:

  • Develop and execute high-level strategies for establishing and maintaining consultative relationships with top-tier venture capital firms, clients, and key decision-makers in Life Science/HealthcareFintech VC/CVC firms.
  • Lead the team in understanding and anticipating the evolving needs of VCs and portfolio companies, strengthening the organization's position in life science and healthcareFintech venture capital (VC) and corporate venture capital (CVC) sectors.
  • Identify and pursue high-impact opportunities for relationship development and market share growth with active VC/CVC firms in Life Science/HealthcareFintech.
  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to internal teams, VCs, and clients, shaping the organization's approach to new opportunities and market trends.
  • Develop and implement long-term strategic plans to expand the organization's reach and impact in the venture ecosystem.

Portfolio Management & Industry Engagement:

  • Oversee high-level engagements with VCs, guiding discussions on portfolio companies and ensuring seamless communication between the Relationship team and VCs.
  • Lead the team in conducting in-depth analyses of venture-backed financings, performance, and fund creation to position the organization as an industry thought leader.
  • Direct and optimize research processes using proprietary and third-party databases, leveraging insights to inform strategic decisions and market positioning.
  • Represent the organization at high-profile events and speaking engagements, establishing yourself as a key thought leader in the venture ecosystem.
  • Mentor and develop team members at all levels, building a strong talent pipeline and succession plan.
  • Escalate issues and opportunities cross functionally, oversee strategic initiatives and participate in complex deals or escalations for existing clients.

Cross-functional Collaboration and Organizational Leadership:

  • Spearhead the review and development of global VC opportunities, creating and implementing strategic plans to expand the organization's reach and impact.
  • Lead complex, high-stakes projects involving both internal and external partners, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with C-suite executives and other senior leaders to align VCRM strategies with broader organizational objectives.
  • Drive innovation in products and services, identifying and implementing transformative solutions to enhance efficiency and value delivery.\
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with industry leaders and influential stakeholders to strengthen the organization's position in the market.

Team Mentorshipanagement and Development:

  • Build, leadMentor, and inspire a high-performing team of relationship managers and specialists.
  • Set performance standards, conduct regular evaluations, and provide mentorship direction to team members.
  • Identify skill gaps within the team and implement targeted training and development programs.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the VCRM team.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of experience in OR High School Diploma or GED and 12 years of extensive executive-level experience in venture capital, corporate venture capital, Life Science/HealthcareFintech/InsurTech/AI industry

  • Proven track record of driving significant business growth and market expansion
  • History of thought leadership and industry influence in the VC/CVC space
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic initiatives that have resulted in substantial organizational growth

The base pay for this position is generally between $222,480 to $333,720 per year. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
