The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology leadership and support to the Georgia Institute of Technology, working in partnership with academic and business units to meet the unique needs of a leading research university. OIT serves as the primary source of enterprise-wide information technology and telecommunications services in support of students, faculty, staff, and researchers.

Job Summary

Network Engineers are responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing the institution's network infrastructure to ensure reliable connectivity and high performance for all users. This role involves diagnosing and resolving network issues, implementing scalable and resilient network solutions, and collaborating with other IT teams to enhance the overall network environment. Network Engineers play a critical role in supporting the institution's technological needs and ensuring seamless access to digital resources.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Monitor the performance and reliability of the institution's network infrastructure, identifying and resolving issues to maintain optimal connectivity for users.

Job Duty 2 -
Configure and install network equipment, such as routers, switches, and firewalls, to ensure efficient data transmission and secure access to resources.

Job Duty 3 -
Conduct regular network assessments and audits to evaluate security measures and identify vulnerabilities that may impact the institution's data integrity.

Job Duty 4 -
Document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps to create a knowledge base that supports effective issue resolution and team collaboration.

Job Duty 5 -
Provide technical support and guidance to faculty, staff, and students regarding network-related issues, ensuring prompt and effective solutions.

Job Duty 6 -
Stay informed about emerging networking technologies and industry best practices, recommending enhancements that could improve the institution's network performance.

Job Duty 7 -
Participate in planning and executing network upgrades and expansions, coordinating with vendors and stakeholders to minimize disruptions to services.

Job Duty 8 -
Prepare reports on network performance metrics, incidents, and resolutions, presenting findings to management to inform decision-making and resource allocation.

Job Duty 9 -
Collaborate with other Information Technology teams to design and implement network solutions that support the institution's goals and enhance user experiences.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Associate's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced certification may be preferred or required.

Required Experience
Two or more years of relevant experience.

Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent.

  • Experience with enterprise campus LAN/WAN/WLAN environments across multiple buildings or sites.
  • Proficient in configuring and managing Cisco Catalyst, Cisco Nexus switches (9K), Meraki, and Juniper EX/QFX platforms.
  • Experience with Juniper Mist cloud-managed networks and AI-driven wireless optimization.
  • Preferred Certifications:
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Cisco Meraki Solutions Specialist (or equivalent experience)
  • Juniper Networks Certified Associate Junos (JNCIA-Junos)
  • Juniper Mist AI certifications are a plus

Budget $80,000

SKILLS
This job requires intermediate level design and maintenance skills in network architecture including applicable systems and network software and hardware.
