Job Summary Estrella Mountain Community College's (EMCC) Veteran Services Department is hiring a Student Services Analyst. This position acts as the primary School Certifying Official (SCO) responsible for interpreting, monitoring, and reporting financial information according to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This position reviews and evaluates student data to determine eligibility for federal and state programs to maintain compliance. Additionally, it plans, organizes, and assigns the work of part-time VA work-study staff. This position also acts as an Academic Advisor for the Veteran Services Department through a case management approach, advises students on occupational degree and certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, testing, registration, academic progress, graduation, goal setting, and satisfactory progress towards certificate/degree using Peoplesoft (SIS), other technology, web-based platforms, and technical assistance to specialized active duty, veteran, and veteran dependent populations. Essential Functions 30% Provides 1:1 academic advising, on-boarding, retention, and success support functions to students to ensure ongoing successful progress to completion of degree programs. Provides guidance to students on goal setting, decision making, degree and certificate options, transfer pathways, course selection, registration, academic progress, transfer credit evaluation and satisfactory progress toward certificate/degree using PeopleSoft and other technology. Identifies academic options including extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships. Provides advice and consultation to students in the selection of options best suited to students' goals, interests, and skills. Connects students with academic and personal resources, including tutoring and counseling. Provides ongoing, proactive follow-up to ensure student learning and progress outcomes are met. 30% Works as an intermediary between the college and federal regulatory agencies. Provides department assistance in compliance/regulatory reviews conducted by the Department of Veteran Affairs and the State Approving Agency. Trains and serves as a VA school certifying official (SCO). 15% Coordinates, prepares data, tracks, and implements department strategies for programs and initiatives, such as veterans mentoring, new student orientation, and/or specialized retention programming. Develops or assists with the development and implementation of program/project goals and objectives; may lead project teams. Researches program opportunities, industry standards, trends, best practices, and emerging technologies. 15% Works collaboratively and collegially with academic units and student services throughout the colleges and across the district to facilitate comprehensive academic support for active duty, veterans, and their dependents. Acts as college/department liaison to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic advising and veteran success. Supervises and provides work direction to part-time or work-study students as needed. 10% Interprets and explains College and Maricopa Community College District policies and procedures related to admissions, curriculum, advising, student success, and degree completion. Handles immediate or sensitive issues requiring confidentiality or quality assurance. Escalates matters requiring senior leadership intervention. Other duties as assigned commensurate to the grade level of the position. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two (2) years of full-time equivalent student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs. OR Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution and four (4) years of full-time equivalent student services or college teaching experience, or experience coordinating, administering, planning, or evaluating programs. An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered . Desired Qualifications 1. Master's degree or higher in Education, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Business, or related field 2.Two (2) or more years of experience providing academic advising in a college or university setting 3.Two (2) or more years of experience as a School Certifying Official (SCO) working with the Department of Veteran Affairs in a college or university setting 4.Two (2) or more years of experience working with state or federal agencies in a compliance-related position focused on regulatory reviews or audits 5.One (1) or more years of experience working in student retention areas, specifically coordinating, implementing, and assessing programs such as new student orientations, mentoring, and success programs 6.Experience using online student databases (I.E. Peoplesoft, Canvas, Banner, Blackboard) 7.Experience working with diverse populations (such as Veterans, Multicultural, International) Special Working Conditions May be required to work evenings and weekends. May be required to view a computer monitor for a prolonged period of time. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is routinely performed in an indoor office environment.
