Astrion is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support the USAF Force Protection Division (AFLCMC/HBU) within the USAF Digital Directorate at Hanscom AFB, MA. This role provides direct engineering support to the Counter-small Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-sUAS) program and other Force Protection Technology Solutions, including Integrated Base Defense Security Systems (IBDSS), Fixed Site Security, and advanced technology efforts.

This is a senior-level role requiring strong technical expertise and the ability to work independently with minimal guidance. The engineer will serve as a technical authority for the program, raising technical questions, concerns, and risks to program leadership and Integrated Product Team (IPT) engineers as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
  • Bachelor's Degree in a professional engineering discipline and 7+ years of directly related experience, 5 of which must be within DoD programs

  • Solid understanding of DoD Systems Engineering processes, requirements management, and acquisition lifecycle (Technology Maturation, EMD, Production, Deployment, O&S)

  • Experience with requirements development, verification/validation, modeling & simulation, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles

  • Familiarity with network architectures, embedded systems, virtualization, and cloud deployment

  • Knowledge of configuration management, technical data package development, and sustainment

  • Desired: familiarity with Electronic Warfare, Air Combat operations, and foreign ground radar systems

RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will lead and oversee engineering efforts across the C-sUAS portfolio, including urgent CONUS and OCONUS needs. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Act as the technical expert for the program with minimal guidance required for high-level engineering tasks

  • Lead technical reviews, trade studies, and risk assessments to ensure system performance, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with requirements

  • Develop, refine, and document system architectures, interface planning, and software development planning

  • Lead or oversee development of System Requirements Documents (SRDs) for future increments (Inc 2+) and review/comment on Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs)

  • Participate in technical interchange meetings, design reviews, and working groups to provide technical recommendations and feedback

  • Support Cameo model development and MBSE activities to maintain accurate system representations

  • Provide technical inputs for future contract planning

  • Review and analyze Initial Capabilities Documents (ICDs), Capability Development/Production Documents (CDDs/CPDs), Concepts of Operations (CONOPs), and Analysis of Alternatives (AoAs)

  • Validate system requirements and ensure alignment with planned increments, user needs, and stakeholder priorities

  • Manage configuration control, technical data, and documentation storage

  • Coordinate closely with:

    • Cyber teams to ensure hardware/software/interface security and risk mitigation

    • Logistics teams to ensure training, manuals, and system documentation are accurate and updated

    • Test teams to ensure test plans thoroughly validate system requirements and leverage existing testing when possible

    • Program Management to communicate risks, technical updates, and impacts on schedule and funding

    • External stakeholders, including sites, Medusa C2, Athena office, Navy SENSI PMO, and WHMO, to align interfaces and technical needs
