Senior Quality Manager
Location: Chaska, MN
Overview:
The
Quality Manager - Electric Motors is responsible for leading product and program quality for electric motor production, including oversight of supplier quality, internal inspections, customer compliance, and the site's Quality Management System (QMS). This hands-on leadership role includes managing the receiving inspection process, developing quality documentation, resolving nonconformances, and driving root cause and corrective actions. The Quality Manager acts as a liaison between Quality, Engineering, Operations, and external partners to ensure effective controls are in place and quality objectives are achieved.
In the near term, this role includes direct involvement in receiving, in-process, and final inspection of components, with the goal of building and managing a dedicated team as local production ramps up.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Quality Strategy
- Lead the site Quality team, overseeing inspection, quality engineering, and quality systems functions.
- Champion a culture of compliance and continuous improvement aligned with AS9100, ISO9001, and customer expectations.
- Represent Quality in cross-functional leadership meetings and serve as the customer interface for program quality matters.
- Develop site-level quality objectives and metrics to align with corporate and program goals.
Receiving Inspection Management
- Own and manage the receiving inspection process, ensuring incoming materials and components meet engineering, procurement, and customer requirements.
- Supervise inspection personnel and ensure appropriate inspection coverage for received goods, including visual, dimensional, and functional testing.
- Approve or reject incoming materials based on inspection results; manage documentation and communication of nonconforming parts.
- Work with Procurement, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to resolve supplier quality issues and drive corrective action (SCARs).
- Ensure that all inspection tools, gauges, and equipment are calibrated, functional, and used properly.
Quality Management System (QMS) Oversight
- Maintain the local QMS in compliance with AS9100 and ISO9001 standards.
- Lead internal audits, facilitate customer and third-party audits, and drive closure of audit findings.
- Manage document control, CAPA, risk assessments, and change management processes.
- Coordinate quality system improvements and harmonization efforts with corporate quality leadership.
Product & Process Quality
- Ensure that all motor components and assemblies comply with customer and internal specifications.
- Oversee development and execution of inspection plans, FAIs, ADPs, and test documentation.
- Promote use of SPC, PFMEA, MSA, and other tools to reduce variability and improve manufacturing quality.
- Investigate and resolve internal and external nonconformances, warranty claims, and escapes.
- Partner with Manufacturing and Engineering teams to develop effective process controls and drive continuous improvement.
Training, Communication & Team Development
- Train and mentor inspectors and quality team members to ensure consistent inspection practices and quality reporting.
- Support the growth of the local quality function by identifying talent needs and building a scalable team structure.
- Conduct regular quality reviews with internal stakeholders and provide clear, data-driven insights and reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- 6+ years of quality experience, including direct experience managing receiving inspection and QMS functions.
- Knowledge of AS9100, ISO9001, and aerospace manufacturing practices.
- Proven experience with root cause analysis, CAPA, SCARs, and quality reporting tools.
- Strong knowledge of inspection techniques, mechanical/electrical measurement tools, and calibration systems.
- Experience leading internal/external audits and working directly with customers and suppliers.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to build cross-functional relationships.
- Proficiency in MS Office and quality/ERP systems.
- U.S. Citizenship required; must be eligible for a security clearance.
Work Environment & Travel:
- Office and production floor environment, with exposure to manufacturing processes.
- Standard work schedule: Monday-Thursday (9 hours), Friday (4 hours); occasional overtime as needed.
- Travel requirement: Up to 50% to NJ for onboarding/training in the first 3 months; up to 10% thereafter.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, and lift up to 25 lbs in a manufacturing environment.
- Vision requirements include close vision, color perception, and the ability to perform visual inspections.
