The Office of Student Success in the College of Applied Human Sciences is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Student Success Coordinator. About the Opportunity The Student Success Coordinator (Program Coordinator) will work with any or all CAHS undergraduate majors and will be responsible for advising current students, advising incoming students through New Student Orientation, developing and instructing First Year Seminars, Career Development courses, and other Student Success courses. Will develop, implement, and assess recruitment and retention initiatives. The Student Success Coordinator will serve as the college liaison for all offered academic student services and ensures compliance to college and university policies and procedures. The incumbent will also support CPOS and Graduate Certification efforts. We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. What You'll Do Advising
- Provides timely and effective academic advising support to undergraduate students and student athletes in the College of Applied Human Sciences.
- Delivers a combination of appreciative and developmental advising models to meet individual student needs and help them reach their educational goals.
- Utilizes the WVU Undergraduate Catalog to ensure compliance to College and University policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the WVU Athletic Department to enhance student athlete advising, NCAA certification, and communication between the units.
- Monitors degree progress and completion and maintains student records by utilizing information systems (i.e., Banner, Degree Works, Navigate).
- Monitors academic standing and maintains accurate and complete student files.
- Assists students through the probation, suspension, contractual readmission, and academic success plan process.
- Supports students through the appeal process for academic and federal financial aid suspensions.
- Supports students through the CPOS and Graduate Certification process.
- Assists transfer students and students taking courses in transient through the transfer credit articulation process.
- Provides academic guidance and support to all students including - academically at-risk students, transient students, students with disabilities, students requiring accessibility services, online, in-person, etc.
- Provides information and referrals to campus and community resources available to assist students in achieving personal, educational, and career goals.
Developing and Assessing Retention Initiatives
- Develops and implements programming aimed at improving retention and degree completion rates for students in CAHS.
- Plans, manages, instructs, and assesses First Year Seminar, student success, and career development oriented courses.
- Responsible for instructing at most two sections of a 2 credit, or one section of a 3 credit and one section of a 2-credit course in the fall and spring terms (Ex CAHS 191, CAHS 300, CAHS 489).
- Works with faculty to identify students who are at-risk during the Early Alert reporting process and provide outreach and support to these students.
- Collaborate with program faculty on the development, implementation, and maintenance of community partnerships, internship and externship experiences, and articulation agreements.
- Conducts database management and analysis for monitoring and documenting student progress, identifying opportunities for increasing program completion, and disseminating relevant findings to CAHS administrators and program faculty to guide decision-making in curriculum and instruction.
- Supports the College's administrative team by collecting and analyzing data on student demographics, undergraduate enrollment, degree completion, and other pertinent topics for periodic reporting.
- Support student events (Graduation, College Days, etc.)
- Provides feedback and recommendations concerning the schedule of courses to ensure we meet student need.
Recruitment Initiatives
- Monitors current trends in enrollment management, student retention, and program completion, making recommendations for continued innovation in strategic planning.
- Participates in New Student Orientation by advising incoming freshman throughout the summer.
- Participates in the planning and execution of Recruitment Events (Decide, Discover, Destination, Academic Sessions, Academic Day, Honors Days, etc.)
- Provides program information to prospective students and their parents i.e., program eligibility requirements, typical course progression, and typical program outcomes. This includes information on certification exams, and certification requirements.
Communication
- Continues to review, update and disseminate to all students and faculty informational materials on student policies, procedures, advising resources, internal communications, program marketing materials, registration and graduation.
- Collaborates with other units on campus to connect students with resources as needed.
- Serve on college and university boards and committees as need.
- Utilizes BANNER, Outlook, Degree Works, Microsoft Applications, Navigate, etc. to communicate with students and maintain records.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in education, counseling or a related field.
- A minimum of one (1) year of related experience.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to deal with stress, conflicts, varied personalities of students, co-workers and others in a calm manner.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft applications and University supported software systems (Banner, Degree Works, Navigate, etc.)
- Ability to work with confidential information and comply with all FERPA regulations.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to interpret academic policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to speak in public to large groups of mixed audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Entering and maintaining student databases.
- Working with records management systems.
- Working with students in higher education.
