Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)
The Rotation Analyst Program is a 21-month program is designed to provide staff with a variety of business/financial/operations analysis assignments, resulting in broad, hands-on exposure to company's analytic support areas and building analytics capabilities across product, service and operational areas. Incumbents provide analytical support by rotating through various departments within Calpine's retail business at three-month interval. After successful completion of the program, employee will be assessed and placed in appropriate business unit.
Job Responsibilities
- Developing professional knowledge of the retail power business
- Developing use and/or application of basic principles, theories and concepts
- Shadow members of each group while also assisting them in fundament tasks of the respective group
- Makes decisions regarding own work within defined parameters

- Be able to communicate results and findings to the relevant stakeholders within the company
1st Rotation | Billing | 3 months
- Monitor daily usage receipt for assigned region and take appropriate steps to process
- Meet deadlines and daily goals for WACOE price validation and generation for current pricing
- Review contractual agreements to confirm accuracy of WACOE price calculations and approve prices
- Meet deadlines and daily goals for invoice validation and generation for current billing
- Utilize strong excel skills to analyze large amounts of data quickly
2nd Rotation | Settlements | 3 months
- Update and maintain obligation models for each ISO
- Maintain and update Load Profiles/Loss factors
- Understand retail charges associated with each ISO market
- Created initial and Trued-Up (ILOD and TLOD) Settlement Curves
- Calculate Reserve Amounts, process wholesale, and ISO invoices
- Liaise with Accounting (Accrual, reserves, etc.)
3rd Rotation | Deal Capture | 3 months
- Understand Retail and wholesale workflow(s) and deal flow differences
- Acquire working knowledge of how solutions retail deals are captured
- Champion and NAP process as well
- Capture CES Allegro Wholesale transactions
- Understand internal systems such as Allegro and lodestar
4th Rotation | Risk | 3 months
- Understand and assist in running DPR processes on daily basis
- Reconcile data between RDS and DPR
- Collect data for market risk analysis purpose
- Validate market curve prices and communicate with desk to any discrepancies
- Help Risk Analyst on any daily work requirements and ad hoc reporting
5th Rotation | Analytics | 3 months
- Review accuracy of formulas used in the Swing Pricing model
- Maintain and update models using VBA and other programming language
- Assist business groups in verifying consistency and accuracy of LF parameters
- Develop a thorough understanding of LMP theory, and LMP simulation software (Dayzer)
- Maintain accurate mapping of RT/DA contingency constraints in Congestion Model
6th Rotation | MWNE Operations | 3 months
- Construct Load Forecast Models utilizing Metrix IDR
- Reconcile Wholesale and Retail Portfolio Positions on a weekly basis
- Schedule Day-Ahead Positions with the various independent Systems Operators
- Conduct MAPE analysis for the scheduled load on a monthly basis
- Calculate and report any Intra-Month P/L on accrual process
- Monitor changes in ISO protocols and track various ISO charges
7th Rotation | Structuring | 3 months
- Become proficient in functional product knowledge (i.e., NES product suite, pricing components and settlement capability) and be able to articulate NES product characteristics to Sales
- Provide basic ad-hoc analysis and reporting as needed (e.g., look-back analysis)
- Work with various back office groups to meet customers goals
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Math, Business, Finance, Engineering degree preferred
- Basic understanding of Electricity and Natural Gas fundamentals preferred
- Effective communication skills both written and oral
- Proficient computer skills with an emphasis on Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and other internal systems
Salary Information - Position eligible for annual bonus.
Salary range - $65,206.15 to $96,179.10
