Note: The hiring manager may elect to fill these positions as an Engineering Technologist I or one level higher as an Engineering Technologist II.

Engineering Technologist I

The Engineering Technologist I position is the first level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support. An Engineering Technologist I applies developing technical expertise to solve simple problems and management skills to provide oversight of work in a specific area of developing expertise, with close supervision. An Engineering Technologist I is expected to develop skills and ability in their field of study and work with some degree of independence.

Engineering Technologist II

The Engineering Technologist II position is second level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification. The Engineering Technologist II applies technical expertise to solve more complex problems and management skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist Ii position are expected to develop deeper technical skills and the ability to work with an increasing degree of independence.

Responsibilities

* Applies technical expertise in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise,
* Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities,
* Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with some guidance,
* Conducts engineering and related studies,
* Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance,
* Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities,
* Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,
* Maintains accurate records and files,
* Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally

Key Skills and Experience

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a strong technical competency and the ability to design overhead and underground single-phase orders. The candidate should be familiar with overhead and underground three phase designs. The candidate should be familiar with tools such as SEDS, Design Lite/BOUD, Pole Foreman, Maximo, and PingIt. Candidates should also possess working knowledge of the Requirements for Electric Service and Meter Installation and the Engineering Resource Manual.

Basic/Required Responsibilities - Engineering Technologist I

Associate's degree in engineering technology

In lieu of Associate's degree(s) listed above, High School/GED AND 4 plus year(s) related work experience

Basic/Required Responsibilities - Engineering Technologist II

Either a graduate from a college or university with Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 2+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or High School Diploma/GED and 6+ years equivalent experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology

  • Experience in the utility industry.

  • Understanding of basic principles of project management.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience in the utility industry.

  • Able to effectively apply basic principles of project management.

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.

  • Frequent Field Visits

  • Travel up to 50%

NOTE:

This role includes participation in storm duty as needed. Employees may be required to travel, work extended hours, including weekends and holidays during storm events or other emergency situations. Responsibilities during storm duty may include field support, operational coordination, or other essential tasks needed for storm restoration.
