Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical Business Analyst to join our Medscape team. This role is crucial for bridging the gap between business objectives and technical solutions, with a strong emphasis on data. You will be a key player in our data-driven initiatives, working closely with business stakeholders and technical teams to define requirements, ensure data quality, and drive the successful delivery of data-centric projects. Your expertise in data analysis, documentation, and communication will be essential in shaping our data landscape and supporting critical business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead requirements-gathering sessions with business and technical stakeholders to define and document business needs, with a strong focus on data requirements and Critical Data Elements .
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear, concise, and comprehensive technical specifications and user stories for development teams.
  • Develop and maintain detailed Business and Functional Requirements Documents (BRDs/FRDs) , ensuring they accurately reflect business needs and data-centric solutions.
  • Architect and document end-to-end data lineage, including source-to-target mapping, data transformations, business rules, and validation logic.
  • Create and maintain data flow diagrams and lineage documentation using tools such as Miro.
  • Perform in-depth impact analysis to assess and communicate the downstream effects of system, process, or data model changes.
  • Partner with data stewards, data owners, and governance teams to ensure consistent data definitions, promote data literacy, and maintain compliance with data standards.
  • Utilize advanced SQL skills to perform data profiling, validate data quality, and trace data across complex systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, architects, product managers, and business users, to ensure alignment and clear communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on data and systems, providing guidance and insights to support business strategy.
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Technical Analyst, with a proven track record of supporting data-intensive projects.
  • Advanced SQL skills with the ability to write, optimize, and troubleshoot complex queries for data analysis, validation, and tracing.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling concepts , relational database structures, and warehousing principles.
  • Hands-on experience with data governance and metadata management tools .
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data integration workflows.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to high-quality documentation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence both technical and non-technical audiences.

We are particularly interested in candidates who possess the following experiences and skills. These qualifications are not required, but they will make your application stand out.
  • Product Development Experience: Direct experience working in a product development or agile environment, bridging the gap between product strategy and technical execution.
  • Complex Organizational Background: Experience operating in a highly matrixed organization with multiple stakeholder groups and competing priorities, demonstrating an ability to navigate complex business landscapes.
  • Data Visualization Expertise: Familiarity with data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau , Power BI , or Looker , and a track record of creating impactful data dashboards.
  • Regulated Industry Knowledge: A background supporting data initiatives within a regulated industry, such as healthcare , finance , or life sciences , and an understanding of relevant compliance requirements.

Salary range: $110,000 - $130,000

Bonus Eligible:

  • This position is also eligible for a discretionary company bonus, based upon business results.
