Job Summary:



The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Pathology, is seeking a full-time faculty member at the Clinical Instructor level to join our growing team of clinical laboratory geneticists. This position will be based at the University of Colorado Department of Pathology and affiliated clinical laboratories, including the Colorado Molecular Correlates Laboratory, the Colorado Genetics Laboratory, and the Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine Biobank Laboratory. The appointee will be engaged in clinical laboratory operations and contribute to multiple domains including molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics across a variety of clinical settings.

The position includes core responsibilities in clinical case sign-out, clinical test development and validation, participation in quality control/quality assurance initiatives, and trainee education.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Serve as a clinical sign-out director or co-director in one or more clinical laboratories providing molecular and cytogenetic testing.
    Interpret and sign out a range of clinical tests including next-generation sequencing (NGS), chromosomal microarray, genotyping microarray, single and multiplex genotyping assays, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and karyotyping.
  • Collaborate with laboratory technical staff to support efficient and accurate result reporting and assay performance.
    Participate in clinical consultations and multidisciplinary discussions with clinical teams.
  • Contribute to the planning, performance, and documentation of validation of new clinical tests, workflow improvements and efficiency initiatives, assay performance assessments, and ongoing quality control efforts.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of laboratory quality systems.
  • Participate in internal audits, CAP/CLIA readiness activities, and proficiency testing.
  • Contribute to SOP development, revision, and compliance documentation.
  • Participate in the education of residents, fellows, and medical students through case discussions, didactic sessions, and mentorship.
  • Contribute to the training of molecular genetic pathology and laboratory genetics and genomics (LGG) fellows.
  • Engage in scholarly and translational activities related to clinical laboratory genetics, which may include research collaborations, poster presentations, or publications.



Work Location:



Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.



  • PhD, MD, or DO degree
  • Board certification or active candidacy in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics (or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics) by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG)


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Prior experience in clinical laboratory operations, including test validation
  • Familiarity with CAP/CLIA laboratory regulations

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$165,000-$180,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
