Hiring Range
The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.The hourly range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $29.10/hr - $34.86/hr.
Job Closing Date
Remote/Hybrid eligibility: Hybrid Schedule. The Department works 1-2 days per week in the Downtown Campus Center. Initial applicant review will begin on or around July 31st, 2025. Posting will remain open until filled. This position will be a 2-year contract and is eligible for full UC benefits.

About the Job
Works on training programs needs assessments, and instructional design content initiatives that are of moderate scope and complexity. Uses professional training concepts in the completion of assignments and applies organizational policies, procedures, and objectives to address training needs and create content to meet online requirements among various functions and departments. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides instructional design and facilitation support for specific training programs/initiatives (including New Employee Orientation, Career Advancement Mentorship, Engagement, Career Development, and systemwide collaborative offerings - management, supervisory, development, etc.). Includes primary designer and/or facilitator role for developmental and existing course content.
- Works collaboratively and effectively in a diverse environment with others across the organization, important external contacts, and members of campus management at all levels to resolve highly complex performance and /or training issues, where analysis of situations requires an in-depth evaluation and understanding of campus strategies and business objectives.
- Maintain updated information about current training programs on the Professional Development Website and the UC Provide design and maintenance support for external unit resources (website, social media, communications platforms) and internal platforms (teams, BOX, Sharepoint, etc.)
- Continuously evaluate activities and resources within the university, including the process of evaluating courses to determine their effectiveness in meeting stated department and/or organizational goals and objectives.
- Perform needs analysis and review organization resources to ensure that learning and development resources exist or are developed to support learning needs based on projected competencies, organizational changes, and other external factors, as well as the short and long-term goals of the university.
- Identify areas in which eLearning, machine learning and AI techniques and strategies can be implemented to reduce budget and time constraints.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
AND
- One year of directly related, progressively responsible experience in a related area or equivalent education, training, and experience.
CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
- Well versed and practiced in instruction, facilitation, and support for the learner.
- Thorough analytical skills to conduct needs analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong presentation skills.
- Thorough knowledge of delivering training programs and knowledge of other areas of people development, human resources, or career development.
- Thorough knowledge of current training programs and trends; e.g. performance management, performance support, emotional intelligence, etc.
- Strong skills to conduct needs assessment and development of new training courses to meet organizational needs.
- Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
- Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant training software systems; i.e., Articulate, CANVA, Qualtrics, Captivate, Adobe Suite, etc. (Preferred)
- Strong skills in planning (project management), resourcing (budget) and monitoring effective delivery (assessment and evaluation) of training. (Preferred)
- Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and education methodologies. (Preferred)
- Practiced in instruction, facilitation, and leading discussions, discovery sessions, town halls, workshops, and other training or meeting functions. (Preferred)
