About the Position

The Business Office Supervisor supports Maricopa County Animal Care and Control's mission by supervising customer service operations day to day. Reporting directly to the Customer Service Manager, this role is responsible for guiding Business Office staff, ensuring quality customer service, and maintaining consistent procedures for intake, lost and found reports, reunification services, and dog licensing.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can foster a supportive team environment, respond effectively in emotionally sensitive situations, and ensure a smooth, compassionate experience for the public. The Business Office Supervisor plays a vital role in upholding operational standards while helping people and pets in our community.

We Require

  • Three years of experience working with animals in a veterinary hospital, humane society, or another animal facility (may include volunteer work)

  • One year of experience with in-person Customer Service

  • One year of experience in a leadership role

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Must be flexible and able to work all shifts, which can include working weekends, and holidays, determined by the needs of the Department

Job Contributions

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the business office, including ensuring consistent service delivery, adherence to policies, and a welcoming experience for the public. Model professional, empathetic communication and handle escalated customer concerns as needed

  • Lead and develop staff into a high-performing team by setting clear goals, delivering regular feedback, and supporting individual growth through ongoing coaching and development plans

  • Conduct recruitment duties, including interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training new business office employees to ensure operational readiness and consistency

  • Model exceptional customer service and ensure team members consistently deliver courteous, empathetic, and solution-focused support to the public, volunteers, and internal stakeholders

  • Oversee monetary transactions and daily financial processes, ensuring accuracy in data entry, resolving discrepancies, and addressing issues in a timely manner

  • Conduct routine audits and quality control checks to verify adherence to established protocols, service standards, and operational procedures

  • Maintain accurate records and generate reports as required to support data tracking, decision-making, and transparency

  • Collaborate with supervisors and staff across locations to review, revise, and uphold current policies and procedures, ensuring alignment and consistent application across the organization

  • Perform animal handling when necessary to support intake, outcome, and lost pet services, following established safety and care protocols

  • Participate in department meetings and shelter functions as assigned to maintain alignment with organizational goals and communication

Working Conditions

  • Work is predominantly performed in an animal shelter with exposure to extreme and varying temperatures, excessive noise, dogs and cats with unknown temperaments or behaviors, animal waste and fluids, deceased animals, cleaning chemicals, and zoonotic diseases

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk on all types of surfaces that are sometimes slippery, uneven, and rough

  • Must be able to lift up to 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly
