THE POSITION

Westside Commons is currently looking for its next Facilities Maintenance Worker. This key facilities maintenance role will perform a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks in the operation, maintenance, repair, janitorial services, and landscaping of Westside Commons grounds and facilities. This position assesses building and facility maintenance needs and reports them to the Operations Supervisor for development of maintenance and repair plans.

The ideal candidates will have knowledge of, and experience in, materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in facility maintenance, landscaping, and janitorial work. They will also be trained in safe work practices, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in public facilities. They will possess strong communication and problem-solving skills, while following verbal and written instructions and procedures effectively. They will be capable of maintaining vehicles, tools, and other specialized equipment. in addition to technical skills, we are looking for candidates who can establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with coworkers. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

In a typical work week, a Facilities Maintenance Worker can expect to:
1. Set up, tear down, assemble, disassemble, move, and manipulate various items such as equipment, materials, event structures, animal stalls, fences, gates, irrigation, and stage assemblies.
2. Frequently move large and heavy objects.
3. Load and unload trucks.
4. Handle pick-ups and deliveries.
5. Maintain the stocking of materials and supplies.
6. Focus on preventative building and equipment maintenance activities.
7. Complete tasks in semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and limited electrical work, such as replacing light bulbs and resetting panel breakers.
8. Perform limited HVAC system maintenance such as replacing filters.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma; AND
  • One (1) year of experience in general building maintenance, a building trade, and/or parks maintenance and landscaping.
Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities, and Specialty Requirements:
  • Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and an acceptable driving record per Washington County policy.
  • Must be able to be certified in the operation of a forklift within six (6) months of the date of hire.

Selection Process:

  4. Panel Interview(s): Our goal is to schedule panel interviews with candidates who successfully pass the SME review as soon as possible.
  5. Conditional Offer of Appointment: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the successful candidate(s) and extend an offer of appointment.
  6. Post-Offer Check: The successful candidate(s) will undergo background and reference checks.
  7. Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
