WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS POSITION:
  • Be responsible for ensuring adherence to trade regulations and leading customs processes.
  • Provide strategic leadership, management, and mentorship to the global trade team.
  • Identify needs of the business and compose, maintain, train, and implement company policies and procedures as they relate to international trade compliance.
  • Engage with functional leaders regularly to understand the strategic vision and act as a business partner to support the strategy while ensuring full compliance with global import/export laws and regulations.
  • Lead import/export processes, including classification, valuation, licensing, and documentation requirements, to facilitate the smooth flow of goods across borders while minimizing delays and costs.
  • Generate ideas, resolve issues, and participate in strategies to expand import/export sales.
  • Identify areas of non-compliance, evaluate risk, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations.
  • Apply detailed knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) to classify goods accurately, facilitating smooth customs clearance and compliance.
  • Research, report, and implement international trade data to ensure global import and export compliance.
  • Develop, implement, improve, and maintain trade compliance management systems, policies, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and assessments to identify areas of potential risk or non-compliance. Implement corrective actions needed in support of continued membership in the CBP Importer Self-Assessment program and the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program.
  • Stay on top of changes in trade regulations and connect with internal partners on potential impacts to the business, providing recommendations for proactive compliance measures.
  • Facilitate implementation of the trade compliance program through effective policies, procedures, training, risk assessments, audits and practices for sites & activities provided by enterprise compliance.
  • Advise key functions, such as Sales, Supply, Logistics and Marketing, on trade compliance programs/requirements to improve the customer experience.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on import/export compliance and assist in trade compliance-related assessments and reviews to monitor the efficiency of internal controls.
  • Support business strategy regarding international sales, initiatives and projects as impacted by export controls, with emphasis on business-wide compliance to U.S. export regulations (e.g. International Traffic in Arms Regulations-ITAR, Export Administration Regulations-EAR, Foreign Trade Statistical Regulations, OFAC, BATFE) and regulations affecting export transactions.
  • Support global sites with import/export compliance activities such as commodity jurisdictions, product classifications, Country of Origin assignment and collection, FTA application and collection, license determinations and authorizations.
  • Lead third parties who assist us in specific compliance support activities including Broker Management.
YOU HAVE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of work experience in Trade and/or Regulatory Compliance field.
  • Extensive experience with HTS (import/export) classification in a manufacturing business.
  • Experience leading free trade agreements (e.g. USMCA).
  • Deep knowledge and experience with U.S. Export Controls & Customs regulations, Global Sanction regulations, including ECCN and USMCL classification.
  • Experience with country of origin and valuation determinations.
  • Extensive regulatory knowledge including 19 CFR; 15 CFR and 22 CFR.
  • Experience with ACE reporting.
  • Experience with Broker Management & Supply Chain Security (eg. CTPAT, AEO) including bonds and power of attorney.
  • Confident communicating with senior leadership and helping the organization navigate rapidly changing trade regulations and business requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with leadership and influence the organization in decisions related to trade compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ideally, Customs Broker License and legal training.
  • Spanish fluency (written and spoken) desirable but not required.
  • Experience with duty drawback operations preferred.
  • Ability to travel as needed, not more than 15%.

Pay Transparency

nVent's pay scale is based on the expected range of base pay for this job and the employee's work location. Employee pay within this range will be based on a combination of factors including knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, and performance. Where federal, state, or local minimum wage requirements exist, employee pay will comply.

Compensation Range:

$146,300.00 - $271,700.00

Depending on the position offered, employee may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as annual incentives.
