A Brief Overview

The HTM Equipment Control Technician 2 is responsible for stocking, distributing, and maintaining medical devices, ensuring their cleanliness and functionality across various hospital departments. You will conduct regular inspections, manage inventory within the equipment database, and perform basic maintenance and testing on medical equipment. Additionally, you will facilitate vendor preventative maintenance services and manage equipment rental requests and returns. Cross Trained, as applicable, to perform Equipment Control Technician responsibilities within Clinical Engineering Services, Dialysis Services, Imaging Service Operations, Ambulatory Service Operations, HTM Cybersecurity Operations, or other Healthcare Technology Management workflows.

What You Will Do



  • Stocks and distributes orders on a variety of equipment (medical devices, bed cables, pillow speakers, etc)
  • Makes visual inspection of devices to ensure sanitization is maintained and cleans and sanitizes soiled devices.
  • Removes devices, due for preventative maintenance, from clinical service.
  • Maintains a neat, clean and organized environment.
  • Inspects equipment identification for inventory management and preventative maintenance currency.
  • Setup, visual inspection and functional test on medical equipment.
  • Picks up soiled devices from hospital departments and delivers clean devices.
  • Facilitates and documents vendor preventative maintenance in the equipment database.
  • Coordinates medical equipment rental requests and return of rental equipment.
  • Performs basic service activities such as functional tests and planned maintenance for low level medical equipment (e.g. infusion pumps)
  • and documents work performed, using technology, with professional written communication.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
