The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

The Pharmacy Technician assists in the provision of pharmaceutical services under the direct supervision of the Registered Pharmacist by performing the technical, clerical and manipulative tasks involved in dispensing, preparing, and distributing all medications and pharmaceutical products for all patient age groups (includes geriatrics, adult, adolescent, pediatric and neonatal). Work and/or performance shall conform to written established hospital policies and procedures.

Qualification

Required:

High school graduate or equivalent. Associates degree preferred.
One year of Pharmacy experience preferred.
NJ State License within 180 days of employment

Successful completion of all orientations.

Essential Functions:

Assist in care and maintenance of Departmental premises and equipment.

Attends all mandatory/departmental inservices as recommended by regulatory agencies.

Communicates all discrepancies and information requested to a Registered Pharmacist.

Complies with all national patient safety goals/risk prevention processes and associated policies and procedures as applicable to scope of practice.

Courtesy and cooperation in dealing with customers and vendors.

Delivers drug orders and carts.

Demonstrates knowledge, skill requirements and expected level of participation in the safety and infection control management program.

Displays self initiative in anticipating and resolving daily work issues.

Files and maintains patient profiles and other Departmental records.

Follows proper safety and infection control procedures and maintains a safe work environment.

Maintains and demonstrates knowledge in the following areas of Pharmacy practice: Calculations, Generic-trade name relationships; Special properties of IV admixtures; Stability s of IV preparations; Contraindications; Chemical formulas, abbreviations, common conversions and symbols; Maintains and demonstrates awareness of limitations of technicians.

Maintains floor stock medications.

Maintains the confidentiality, security and integrity for the management of associate/patient information according to policy and procedure.

Oversees volunteer staff to ensure accuracy and compliance with hospital policies and procedures.

Participates in on-going education and training related to organization and department specific requirements.

Performs dosage calculations and labels appropriately.

Proficient in use of Pharmacy computer, and other departmental software, as required for position.

The staff member demonstrates the ability to identify what the patient s educational needs are.

The staff member participates in the interdisciplinary patient teaching process.

Under the direction of the Pharmacist, prepares medication for dispensing, maintains unit dose system and prepares IV admixtures in a timely manner.

Willingness and flexibility to work alternating and rotating work schedules on short notice.

Willingness to work with attention to detail with the realization that errors may have serious consequences.
