Compensation
At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, with a commitment to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated hourly base pay rate for this position is $24. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual short-term incentive bonus, subject to eligibility criteria.

Join Our Team as an Assembler!
Are you passionate about assembly? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our ME Switchgear Assembly team. As an assembler, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. In this job you will assemble medium voltage switchgear, both standard and custom units. You will work in a production environment, engage in continuous productive activity, and must meet requirements within time constraints. Initially, you will be assigned to one station, but you will need to be flexible and open to working additional stations as business needs require.

Tasks require a high degree of eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the use of both hands and arms on a repetitive basis for a full range motion. You will frequently use hand and power tools; occasionally work while standing on ladders; and occasionally work inside tight compartments.

  • Perform intermediate-level wiring and mechanical assembly, following schematics and assembly instructions.

  • Mount moderately complex components, route, and secure cables, and ensure proper fit and function.

  • Conduct buffing, grinding, and other clean-up of machined parts and components.

  • Inspect components and assemblies to ensure correct component selection, placement, and wiring, according to quality standards.

  • Read and understand blueprints/schematics and Bills of Materials (BOLs).
  • Maintain accurate records of tasks performed, deviations, and any quality concerns.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols while handling tools, equipment, and materials. Report any safety hazards promptly.
  • Utilize the Oracle ERP and other internal systems to close jobs and request material replenishment.
  • Mentors less experienced team members in the completion of their work to help their professional growth.
  • Use an overhead crane and other material handling equipment to move and position materials for assembly.

Required:

  • 2-3 years of experience in mechanical or electrical assembly, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

    • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent

    • Highly proficient in performing precise and delicate tasks using hands and fingers. Able to manipulate small objects, operate tools, and handle intricate equipment effectively.

  • Ability to understand blueprints, BOLs, and electrical schematics.

  • Sound attention to detail, with the ability to determine accurate part quantities consistently.

  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to articulate information efficiently and effectively to team members in a variety of production support departments.

    • Basic computer skills with the ability to review and respond to requests via internal applications.

    • Basic math skills with the ability to calculate measurements and weights.

    • Good interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to understand and complete requests given by team members inside and outside of the department.

    • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and measurement tools.

    • Ability and willingness to follow Health, Safety & Environment procedures accurately, reporting concerns promptly to the safety action team.

    • Ability to train and mentor less-experienced team members.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement of manufacturing principles.

Major Physical Demands:

  • Standing: Most tasks are performed in a standing position with intermittent walking.

    • Lifting: Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from 5lbs. to 50 lbs.

    • Walking: Occasional walking moderate distances (less than 1/8 mile).

    • Carrying: Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 25 lbs.

    • Pushing: Occasional use of electric hand truck to move parts a moderate distance.

    • Pulling: Occasional use of electric hand truck to move parts a moderate distance.

    • Bending: Frequent bending and crouching required to complete the assembly tasks.

    • Reaching: Continuous full range of motion from above the shoulders to below the knees.

    • Handling: Continuous handling of parts ranging in size from 5 lbs. to 25 lbs., along with a variety of hand-tools.
