Department of Veterinary Medicine & Surgery Job Description
The Neurology & Neurosurgery (NNS) Service at the University of Missouri currently seeks candidates for an open rank teaching professor (NTT), or open rank professors(TT) in Veterinary Neurology and Neurosurgery. The NNS Service consists of board-certified veterinary neurologists, three to four NNS residents in training, and a dedicated veterinary nursing staff. Together, the clinicians, students, and technician of the NNS Service, provide exceptional care for one of the most productive service lines in our teaching hospital, with over 2000 cases per year. The successful candidate will work with the service to enhance referral caseload and to train students and house officers in neurosurgery and neurology. Additionally, the service covers didactic teaching responsibilities including classroom lectures and laboratories. The Neurology and Neurosurgery Section offers opportunities for collaborative or independent basic, translational, and clinical research. Collaborative partners include MU's Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program, The NextGen Precision Health Center, and the MU School of Medicine. This is a full-time, benefit eligible, 12 month/year appointment. Teaching or tenure track options are available depending on the qualifications and interests of the candidate. Distribution of effort between teaching, research, and service will depend upon whether a tenure track or teaching track option is chosen as well as the successful candidate's qualifications, career goals, and the needs of the neurology & neurosurgery section. The College of Veterinary Medicine at MU is on a mission to educate and train outstanding clinicians and scientists, generate new knowledge, engage stakeholders, and foster economic growth, all of which promote and protect the health and welfare of animals and people. Our Doctor of Veterinary Medicine professional program boasts a unique curricular structure, which provides nearly two years of hands-on training in the college's general and specialty clinics. Additionally, the College is a leader in the training Undergraduate, Masters, and PhD students in the areas of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Pathobiology. Simply put, our mission is to Teach, Heal, Discover, and Serve. MU's Veterinary Health Center (VHC) is a state-of-the-art teaching and medical services facility for companion animals as well as livestock. The VHC has 51,211 square feet dedicated to the small animal hospital, including separate areas for our 14 specialty service lines, a full-service clinical pathology laboratory, an in-house pharmacy, as well as radiation therapy and imaging. The VHC offers the latest in neurosurgical equipment and neurodiagnostics that include advanced imaging, electrodiagnostic testing, clinicopathologic testing, DNA testing, radiation therapy, 3-D printing, dedicated Motion Analysis Laboratory and stereotaxy equipment. Electrodiagnostic testing (Cadwell Sierra Summit) includes digital EEG, EMG, nerve conduction testing, and signal averaging. Imaging modalities available in house include computed tomography (CT) (Acquillion One Scanner; 640 slices/rotation), 3.0 Tesla magnetic resonance scanner (Canon), fluoroscopy (OEC 990 Elite, GE) and CT/Positron Emission Tomography scanner (Celesteion PET/CT scanner, Canon). The Small Animal Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Service has dedicated faculty and staff.
