Position Summary

The Director of Corporate Communications leads the planning, development and implementation of First Busey Corporation's corporate communications strategies and the related initiatives. The Director authors and manages internal and external corporate communications as it relates to non-product information, investor relations, strategic initiatives and other corporate information while effectively representing Busey to our Pillars - associates, customers, shareholders and communities. The objective of this function is to provide consistency and clarity of vision and enhance First Busey Corporation communications both internally and externally, utilizing a variety of mediums. Duties & Responsibilities
  • In partnership with the CCO, develop overall communication strategy for internal and external audiences, supporting development of corporate communications copy, including brand messaging, internal and external publication, corporate news releases, video messaging and other related projects.
  • Author and maintain monthly/quarterly/annual calendar of communication initiatives, including content and channel management.
  • Manage complex priorities and timelines to research, design and implement successful communication timelines, content and strategies on a variety of topics to support corporate, bank, wealth management and subsidiary initiatives.
  • Author, edit and proofread corporate communications copy, including brand messaging, internal and external publication, corporate news releases and other related projects.
  • Proactively seek communication, brand and process improvements; partner with peers to develop best practices, share ideas, ensure consistency and refinement.
  • Research trends in innovative communication and engagement strategies, tools and technology and advise on ways to continuously improve Busey's initiatives.
  • Influence a growth-driven culture of customer-centric innovation, inclusion, collaborative problem-solving and accountability.
  • Tell compelling stories consistently and creatively across communication channels.
  • Oversee corporate communication initiatives and channels including crisis communication, public relations, corporate education resources, social and digital channels, reputation management, shareholder communications, mergers and acquisitions and other efforts as assigned.
  • Oversee corporate awards programs and nominations.
  • Research trends in innovative strategy and communication techniques and advise on ways to continuously improve corporate communications.
  • Monitor Busey's internal and external communication mediums and communicate with necessary parties.
  • Support the research, design, and implementation of successful communication timelines and plans on a variety of topics and initiatives. This includes coordinating an annual corporate communication plan to ensure quality execution, timely completion and accuracy of communication goals.
  • Proactively seek communication process improvements; partner with peers to develop, test, practice, share ideas and ensure consistency and refinement.
Education & Experience

Knowledge of:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to modify tone and deliverability channel.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities while keeping projects on timeline. Project management experience a plus.
  • Proven experience with communication, digital strategy, public relations and graphic design.

Ability to:

  • Analyze and recommend communication needs
  • Assist in growth plans, supporting the desired strategic objectives of the organization.
  • Leverage data to better understand and serve Busey's customer base.
  • Analyze and recommend communication and engagement strategies.
  • Maintain a keen eye for detail, and commitment to operational excellence while serving as an advocate for performance measurement.
  • Manage multiple ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment with complete autonomy.
  • Work independently while leading fellow team members to deliver results.

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor's degree required; focus in Communications, or related field is preferred.
  • Requires five or more years of experience in a related field, preferably in a financial services environment.
  • Requires full proficiency of Microsoft Office, Smartsheet; intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel, Access preferred.

Benefits and Compensation

Salary offered is based on factors, including but not limited to, the job duties, required qualifications and relevant experience, and local market trends. The role may be eligible for bonus or incentives based on company and individual performance.

(Base Pay Range: $92,000 - $115,000/year)
