Director of Wealth Planning

Sets short and long-term strategic direction of the Wealth Planning team and responsible for sustainable growth of planning and advice across Wealth Management. Responsible for defining and deploying the wealth planning delivery model internally and externally, through design of a scalable, efficient, and profitable business model. Leads and oversees planning-related thought leadership deliverables and process including the internal and external marketing functions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage a team former practicing lawyers, CPA, and CFPs providing expertise to individual clients in estate and tax planning strategies, financial planning and modeling, retirement planning, business succession planning, pre- and post-transactional planning, concentrated position management, and other personal planning strategies.

Manage the Wealth Planning delivery model across the continuum of planning needs for clients and prospects, including financial planning, estate planning, trust administration, and business succession planning.

Represent and lead the Wealth Planning team across the organization to deepen relationships with existing clients, important Commercial / Community Bank clients and qualified prospects.

Deliver timely, relevant, important, actionable, guidance and advice to increase client retention and spur new opportunities for wealth management cross-selling.

Grow or broaden revenue generating prospect opportunities primarily within the Bank and secondarily through external sources such as traditional and non-traditional centers of influence.

Manage and participate in developing new client relationships with Wealth Advisors, Trust Officers, and other internal partners including Commercial and Business Banking.

Ensure partnering with Advisors and relationship teams across the firm to identify, evaluate, implement and administer multi-generational financial planning strategies, concentrating on qualitative and quantitative evaluation and presentation of strategies that complement client objectives.

Work with most complex planning situation. Ensure assessment of highly complicated and undefined situations and application of multi-generational wealth planning knowledge to create multiple solutions for the client which is in their best interests.

Manage, develop, enhance and deploy existing and future specialty advice services, including but not limited to, charitable planning, next generation program and advanced estate planning, estate settlement and national business owner model, by working closely with existing leadership in these areas.

Maintain high level of industry visibility by authoring articles, newsletters and white papers and participating in workshops and public speaking engagements to educate current and potential clients and market the firm's wealth management and banking capabilities. Attend local and national conferences as our lead advice representative.

Success at driving prospect and client opportunities to completion.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 13 years' relevant industry experience and knowledge working with high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, business succession planning, trust & estate planning, and wealth management/financial services.

Extensive experience with sophisticated family business and succession planning, philanthropic planning, estate and gift tax management techniques, discounted gifting transactions, estate litigation, goals-based planning, asset allocation, monetization and hedging techniques, and the taxation and analysis of employee stock options.
Law firm or wealth management experience with an emphasis in trust & estate planning, financial planning, and/or tax planning analysis.

Experience with a highly consultative approach to problem solving excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education and Experience Preferred:

JD (Juris Doctor) or Master of Laws (LLM) degree or Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA).

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP).

Minimum of 5 years' prior management or leadership experience with moderate to large scope of responsibility

Significant experience working with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and business owners.
