JOB FUNCTION:
A Forklift Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing industrial trucks and other Fareway equipment while upholding a safe, efficient, and productive level of work. This position will report to the Cart Shop Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct thorough inspections of industrial trucks and assigned equipment
- Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical and electrical problems, then repair or replace malfunctioning parts
- Ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks
- Ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently
- Stay up to date on new tools, equipment, and techniques
- Assist the Cart Shop Manager in maintaining inventory
- Effectively and accurately use the CMMS system for record keeping and scheduling.
- Bring any questions or concerns to the Cart Shop Manager
- Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with safety regulations
- Other duties as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- A strong understanding of general maintenance techniques is essential
- An understanding of industrial truck operation, components, and repair techniques is required
- Proficiency in using various tools and equipment for repairs, including power tools, hand tools, and specialized machinery
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and interpreting test results to identify and troubleshoot problems
- Basic computer skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to multi-task
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Completion of a mechanic / maintenance program preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Cart Shop Technicians work on, under, or in industrial trucks for 8+ hours a day
- Computer keyboard work sitting as required
- Occasional walking, bending, crawling, and climbing
- Often perform lifting, twisting, pushing, and pulling activities
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, industrial trucks, oils, gases, and fumes
- Occasional exposure to extreme cold and hot temperatures
- Heated shop and office
- Occasional moderate to loud cart shop noise
