JOB FUNCTION / SUMMARY:

Manages the Profitability Measurement department to include, but is not limited to, customer, product and organizational profitability. Proactive consultative services are provided to CEOS and Executive Management team regarding actionable financial intelligence that will contribute to the advancement of HBHC beyond top quartile performance by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate associates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops proactive communication regarding existing profit reporting and what it represents and how CEOs and executive management team should utilize the information on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Innovates profitability process to ensure communication methods & reporting are driven by the business decisions that need to be made.
  • Fully designs and aligns management communication with Hancock's strategic direction and management actions.
  • Facilitates consistent application of enhanced measurement principles and methodologies throughout the company. Develops policies and procedures for strict discipline of consistent profitability measurement and method application across all business lines and units including but not limited to Marketing Customer Information Systems (MCIF), Retail branch analysis tools (Pitney Bowes-MapInfo), and other emerging profitability systems and measures from business lines outside of Finance.
  • Directs all functions of HBHC's profitability measurement process, including ensuring that best practices are employed regarding funds transfer pricing, costing and capital assignment.
  • Develops and manages a framework of decision making tools that deliver clarity and better insight into the components of customer, product and organizational profitability. Directs implementation of new profitability system including, but not limited to, cost allocations, equity allocations, funds transfer pricing, net interest margin, risk adjusted return on capital (RAROC) and other profitability measures.
  • Directs production and development of high impact report displays to effectively provide guidance to HBHC's executive management team on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Oversees timely completion of product, customer and organizational profitability processes and analyses.
  • Performs profit process improvement reviews on an annual basis by assessing HBHC's current strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
  • Stays abreast of margin compression, competition, technological change, regulatory burden and current economic environment and makes recommendations for implementing change with a structured focus on maximizing revenues and reducing operational efficiencies that drain resources from other more profitable opportunities.
  • Provides analysis support of acquisition activities as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises two employees in the Profitability Measurement department; Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Master's degree (M. A.) or equivalent; or eight to ten years of related experience and/or training
  • Corporate level financial institution experience required with a concentration in standard profitability techniques & methods such as fund transfer pricing, cost and equity allocations
  • Experience in management of in-house profitability systems desired
  • Language Skills Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing using the English language; Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents; Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints; Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style; Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory; Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases; Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills: Ability to learn, or knowledge of, Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook. Oracle or SunGard Financial solutions experience preferred.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: No specific requirements are needed to satisfactorily perform this job. However, CPA and/or CMA certifications preferred.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate related equipment to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 10 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division an "undue hardship" then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement
