Administers various forms of respiratory modalities in accordance with the policies and procedures of the respiratory care department.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Sets up and monitors equipment for transcutaneous CO2 monitoring (TCM). Assists with troubleshooting, education, and training.
2. If needed will help monitor and maintain the difficult airway carts in the NICU and PICU areas. Identifies and assesses potential high-risk airway patients, participates on code airway team.
3. Coordinates care of the pediatric cystic fibrosis patient population and collaborates with the pediatric pulmonary team.
4. Attends high risk deliveries.
5. Will assist with all initial and subsequent endotracheal tube securement.
6. Will assist with orientation and training of new staff in the NICU and pediatric care areas. Coordinates cross campus training, integration, and standardization of NICU and Pediatric respiratory care services, equipment, and coverage.
7. Will be part of the transport team and be required to go on external transports via ambulance or helicopter.
8. Will be an active participant in multidisciplinary rounds- presenting the respiratory portion.
9. Provides recommendations to manager or supervisor for the most efficient utilization of assigned personnel. Relays work instruction from the supervisor.
10. Will float to adult ICU's, pediatric floors or emergency room when needed.
11. Performs all responsibilities of a Respiratory Clinician.

7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

All responsibilities are essential job functions.

Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:

Required:
1. Must a registered respiratory therapist.
2. Current MA license.
3. Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP).

Preferred:
1. Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Experience/Skills:

Required:
1. Minimum of 1 year of experience in neonatal and pediatric critical and emergency respiratory care, including specialty procedures and therapies.
2. Demonstrates strong communication, time utilization, and problem-solving skills.
3. Technical and computer skills.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

II. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered medium work. Position requires work indoors in all clinical areas and a normal office environment. Exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Includes lifting occasionally, standing and walking frequently.
