Position Summary The Payer Billing Manager leads the end-to-end billing cycle for the Payer business line, ensuring accurate invoicing, compliance with pricing contracts, and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams. This role partners closely with Finance, Revenue Operations, Sales, Legal, and Executive Leadership to drive billing accuracy, cash flow efficiency, and a high-quality client experience. The Manager will provide operational leadership, support ongoing process improvement, and offer informal mentorship to billing specialists. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute all aspects of monthly client billing for payer-related accounts
- Research and apply contract and legal pricing terms, ensuring accuracy in billing logic and documentation
- Maintain and update the master billing file and related documentation for audit readiness and consistency
- Oversee revenue recognition activities in coordination with Finance and Accounting
- Work closely with Accounting to reconcile billing data to the general ledger and resolve discrepancies
- Conduct regular data analysis and monthly billing reviews to identify trends, errors, or process gaps
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Legal, Field Operations, and others to resolve pricing and billing inquiries
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payer-related billing questions and escalate complex issues as needed
- Partner with Senior Executives and Business Unit Leaders to align billing strategy with broader business goals
- Support company integrations and acquisitions, with a focus on transitioning billing processes and aligning pricing structures
- Identify and resolve non-standard billing issues, coordinating solutions across departments
- Perform analytical procedures to detect and prevent billing errors or inconsistencies
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to billing team members; support training efforts for new and existing associates
- Participate in and lead billing process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications Education:
- Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience
Experience:
- 3-5 years of billing experience, preferably in a healthcare or payer-focused environment
- Experience with contracts, pricing structures, or revenue-related processes
- Demonstrated collaboration with cross-functional teams (e.g., Finance, Legal, Sales)
- Leadership experience (formal or informal) is a strong plus
Skills & Abilities:
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, data validation, etc.)
- Familiarity with billing or accounting systems (Lawson preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a deadline-driven environment
- Comfortable interpreting contracts and applying complex pricing
- Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and resolve billing problems proactively
