About the Position

The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is seeking a results-driven CADD Manager with extensive experience in leading and optimizing Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) systems within civil engineering environments. Our desired candidate is adept at implementing strategic technology planning, providing expert-level software configuration and support, and driving continuous innovation to meet organizational objectives. This position is responsible for bridging the gap between engineering teams, IT professionals, and external consultants to ensure high-quality drafting standards and system performance.

Our ideal candidate is skilled in troubleshooting complex design and technology issues, delivering end-user training, and developing customized solutions that align with county-specific standards. This position maintains active engagement with industry developments and vendor technologies to keep systems at the forefront of capability and compliance. We are seeking a candidate with proven ability to deliver efficient, scalable, and future-ready CADD environments across government and consulting platforms. Our desired candidate should have in-depth experience using and supporting MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and OpenBridge software.

We Require

  • Three years of computer-aided design and drafting work experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field

  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

We Also Value

  • Five years of transportation-related CADD work experience

  • Experience using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and OpenBridge Modeler

  • Experience developing and providing CADD training and creating training documentation

  • Experience providing CADD support

Job Contributions

  • Ensure maximum efficiency and performance of the Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) system

  • Serve as the primary contact for troubleshooting and resolving CADD software and hardware issues

  • Provide technical expertise, direction, and training on CADD system usage to departmental end users

  • Develop and administer CADD training for MCDOT

  • Act as liaison with vendor and manufacturer representatives in resolving software and operating system problems

  • Update and maintain MCDOT CADD standards and standard operating procedures

  • Develop configuration files and software customizations to support MCDOT drafting and design standards

  • Research, test, and evaluate emerging CADD technologies to meet MCDOT's objectives

  • Provides CADD services for MCDOT, including 3D visualization and drafting

  • Develop and monitor CADD software budgets and contracts

  • Lead continuous short-term and long-term planning for CADD technology to align with departmental goals

  • Engage with civil engineering practitioners and technical experts to stay current on state-of-the-art developments in CADD software, tools, and practices

  • Coordinate with internal and external CADD users to maintain consistent drafting standards across projects

  • Collaborate with IT staff to configure system images for all users, ensuring consistency across hardware and software platforms

  • Convert, revise, and support software system specifications or vendor packages to sustain and enhance CADD operations

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and objectives

Working Conditions

  • This position is eligible for hybrid flexibility after a brief training period

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time with occasional walking or standing for longer periods of time

  • The position is typically located in an office environment. Occasional field work may be required. The incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures (hot or cold), wind, rain, traffic hazards, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

Machines, tools, equipment, software, and hardware

  • Computer workstation, CADD software, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, large format printers, plotters, scanners, and motor vehicle

Protective equipment required

  • Hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes
