JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Grigson Lab in the Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics at Penn State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA., is looking for a neuroanatomist to use the confocal microscope to examine and quantify cFos activated cells in brain. Specifically, we seek someone who has many years experience using the confocal microscope and in the field of neuroscience. Experience with Fiji-imageJ or Icy is highly desirable. Skill in database management and knowledge in computer hardware is big plus.

This position will be a 22 hour per week position.

Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. with more than three years experience in neuroanatomy, neuroscience, or related discipline

Representative Duties

  • Count cFos activation of the LC and the VTA using the confocal microscope
  • Take pictures and Designate into folders
  • Report findings to the Grigson Laboratory

Base Description - Demonstrates ability to use the confocal microscope to examine the tissue slices and to identify and count cFos activated neurons in two brain regions, the locus coeruleus (LC) and in the ventral tegmental area (VTA).
