UAS Dining Services- Conference & Events

Work Schedule: This is a student, part-time position; 20 hours per week; non-exempt position. This position is not eligible for benefits. This is a temporary appointment expiring on or before March 31, 2026, contingent upon the availability of funds.

Position Overview: The incumbent will work and report directly to the Conference & Events Manager. This is

a unique opportunity for on-the-job training in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions: The incumbent will be responsible for the day-to-day clerical support of the Department. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft applications- Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook
  • Maintain constant oversight of catering emails on Outlook
  • Customer Service friendly. Must be able to communicate clearly on the phone and take messages.
  • Assist catering team by updating banquet and kitchen staff with event order updates
  • Able to perform light administrative duties while working within a fast-paced kitchen atmosphere
  • Filing, scanning, and organizing
  • Performs other duties assigned

Requirements: The incumbent must be a student currently attending Cal State L.A.

A completed Student Employment Application is required along with proof of course schedule to determine enrollment status. The incumbent must have strong computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite, strong Excel and Adobe Suite knowledge is a plus, pay attention to detail and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The incumbent must understand and express clearly both verbally and in writing in order to effectively interact with others in a professional setting. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to complete tasks without prompting. It is important that the assistant be invested in the program, as he/she is an ambassador for the program to the outside world. The incumbent must also demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/ multiethnic environment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or the continued employment of current UAS employees who apply for the position.
