The Sartorius Lab Products and Services (LPS) team is seeking an experienced Software Quality Assurance Engineering Manager to lead our software development efforts in Ann Arbor, MI. In this crucial leadership role, you will be responsible for establishing and implementing quality assurance best practices, standards, and procedures to ensure that software products fully meet the specified requirements and quality benchmarks.

You will lead and grow the SQA team, manage and run software test plans, and oversee the troubleshooting and resolution of software defects throughout the development lifecycle. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineering, product management, and quality control, to ensure product completeness and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, a proven track record in managing high-performing teams, and the ability to drive projects to successful completion.

What you will accomplish together with us:

  • Develop and implement quality assurance practices and standardized processes across the engineering team to improve product quality, enhance efficiency, and ensure consistency in deliverables.

  • Manage and mentor QA engineers and testers; assign responsibilities and monitor performance.

  • Establish software testing requirements and practices that align with the Agile development methodology for project execution.

  • Ensure comprehensive test plans and test cases are created and executed.

  • Establish a unified test automation platform across all software products to enhance quality and accelerate regression test cycles.

  • Manage product feedback, requests, and defects by software products, and integrate insights into future development cycles.

  • Establish metrics for assessing software quality and performance.

  • Satisfy compliance with company and industry standards when applicable.

  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration with development, product management, and quality control to align on requirements and quality goals.

  • Collaborate with the SQA team to perform tests when necessary.

  • Ensure transparency, clear understanding of project objectives, and alignment of efforts across the organization.

  • Efficiently allocate and manage resources, including personnel, technology, and budgets, to maximize productivity and meet project objectives.

  • Prioritize and process customer feedback and bug reports and facilitate sustaining engineering activities when needed.

  • Contribute to software testing until the QA team is fully staffed.

What will convince us:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering, Science, or a related field

  • 5+ years of direct experience in managing software quality assurance or testing teams, with a proven track record of leading, mentoring, and growing high-performing teams.

  • Extensive experience with Agile development methodologies, including Scrum, with a strong ability to implement and adapt testing practices to fit team needs and project requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage testing requirements for complete software projects from concept through to deployment, including test planning, execution, resource allocation, and risk management.

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, facilitating effective team collaboration.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to address technical challenges, make strategic decisions, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Solid experience in software test automation and implementation of automation platforms.

  • Experience in developing and implementing full verification and validation traceability for project requirements.

  • Experience in managing defect tracking systems or Azure DevOps.

  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience in cloud-based software solutions, including familiarity with major cloud service providers, e.g. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and their respective services and management tools, is a plus.

  • Scientific knowledge or experience in the life science industry is a plus.

  • Experience in software development within regulated industries and familiarity with compliance requirements such as 21 CFR Part 11 is a plus.
