Position description

The Department of Head & Neck Surgery invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar under the supervision of Associate Professor Daniel M. Beswick, M.D. at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

The Postdoctoral Scholar will study olfactory loss and sinusitis in people with cystic fibrosis (CF) as part of a R01/NIH- and CF-Foundation-funded study. Findings from this work will highlight the importance of early intervention in treating disease complications of CF. The work is hypothesized to show that chronic sensory dysfunction and sinonasal disease can be prevented with early intervention. This work and its results are key priorities for the CF community and for UCLA. Certain details of the research project can be found here on ClinicalTrials.gov: https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT06191640?term=NCT06191640&rank=1

Applications are being sought from recent Ph.D. or M.D. graduates with a strong background in statistics and data analysis, imaging science, segmentation of medical images including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, and outcomes research. Familiarity with olfaction and cystic fibrosis are helpful but not required.

The candidate will work closely with the PI and collaborators on research projects. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be expected to mentor trainees with the PI in the laboratory, gather and analyze data, analyze MRI images, prepare presentations, write and edit manuscripts, and write and prepare grant applications.
