JOB TITLE: Senior Information Security Engineer (ISSE) GOVERNMENT AGENCY: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), CJIS Information Assurance Unit (CIAU) LOCATION: Hybrid Position at the FBI CJIS location in Clarksburg, WV; this is a primarily remote position, however, occasional travel to the site may be requested by the customer POSITION TIMING: Contingent on award; expected contract start date August 30, 2025 BENEFITS: Health, Dental and Vision, 401(k), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), 11 Paid Federal Holidays, PTO, education reimbursement CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Candidate must hold an active Top-Secret clearance. We are seeking a Senior Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to support the FBI CJIS Division in designing and implementing security architecture across a portfolio of over 30 mission-critical systems and services. This role is central to ensuring the secure development and modification of information systems in accordance with FBI and federal mandates. You will collaborate closely with ISSOs, Security System Assessors (SSAs), system owners, and technical teams to define, validate, and implement robust security engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
Lead and support thesecurity engineering lifecycle from concept through implementation, focusing on protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of FBI CJIS systems.
- Coordinate with ISSOs, SSAs, and system stakeholders to define and validate system security requirements based on FBI policies, NIST RMF, and mission objectives.
- Design and evaluate security architectures by analyzing proposed system structures, selecting appropriate security services, and determining the most effective mechanisms to mitigate risk.
- Translate mission and business protection needs into actionable technical requirements, allocating them to system components and interfaces.
- Perform security analysis on system designs, including trade-off assessments and constraint evaluations, ensuring compliance with security control baselines.
- Support cloud security architecture and secure automation strategies usingAWS and Microsoft Azure, with a focus on scalable, compliant infrastructure.
- Contribute to the determination ofauthorization boundaries, ensuring proper scoping for system ATOs in collaboration with business lines and technical teams.
- Evaluate security impacts of system changes or enhancements and guide their secure implementation in Agile, SAFe, and CI/CD environments.
- Develop component-level security specifications and interface definitions to support acquisition, implementation, and ongoing operations.
- Assess systems for their ability to meetCIA (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability) requirements, along with authentication and nonrepudiation assurances.
- Create technical documentation, briefings, white papers, and comparative reports for internal and external audiences.
- Support the development, maintenance, and revision of internalinformation security policies and guidelines.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- 10+ years of experience in information systems security engineering or a related field, ideally supporting federal clients.
- Bachelors Degree, required.
- Strong background incloud security, including architectural design and automation for AWS and/or Azure environments.
- Deep knowledge offederal cybersecurity standards, including NIST RMF, FIPS, and NIST SP 800-53/160.
- Experience collaborating with diverse technical teams (architects, developers, integrators) in a large-scale, secure system environment.
- Familiarity with SAFe Agile practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to develop detailed security documentation and present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Security Clearance: Active Top Secret clearance.
DESIRED:
- Masters Degree, preferred; Bachelors Degree and 2+ years of additional work experience can be substituted in lieu of the advanced degree requirement
- CISSP(Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or equivalent certification.
- AWSor Azure Cloud Security certifications.
- Experience with FBI systems or previous work in CJIS-compliant environments.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and toolsets.
- Familiarity with SAFe Agile methodology and secure DevOps practices.
