The Production Supervisor assumes primary responsibility for all aspects of filling and cylinder handling. This position supervises and leads associates in the safe unloading and loading of cylinders onto trucks and/or filling of Acetylene gas cylinders to ensure adequate supply levels are maintained to meet daily customer demand. The Production Supervisor promotes safety, teamwork, and Airgas policies at all times.

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?
  • Responsible for adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment.

  • Adheres to and assures compliance with the Code of Conduct/Handbook, policies and procedures, and all applicable rules, regulations, and standards promulgated by Federal, State, and other applicable agencies or regulating bodies.

  • Ensures safety rules are strictly observed and safety training is regularly scheduled, conducted & documented, corrects unsafe practices or conditions without delay, promotes safety awareness of employees, and creates a mechanism in which the supervisors are actively participating and held accountable.

  • Ensures any accident and/or injury is reported to management and safety immediately. At times may lead the shifts daily safety meetings.

  • Leads plant associates engaged in the operation, production, and movement of acetylene gas packaging.

  • Ensures accurate and sufficient inventory to fulfill customer demand.

  • Provides appropriate training to plant associates to ensure adequate and consistent production levels are meeting customer demands.

  • Ensures adequate cylinder supply to fulfill customer orders.

  • Documents and communicates any product shortages in shift recap to next shift supervisor/management.

  • Supervises associates responsible for counting and loading of all cylinders on/off of company trucks.

  • Assists in production recordkeeping, including daily data entry in SAP and Google Sheets.

  • Responsible for shipping and receiving of cylinders into the acetylene plant and to customers (internal / external).

  • Responsible for cylinder count accuracy and plant inventory accuracy.

  • Day shift supervisor is responsible for completing customs paperwork for products shipped outside of the United States.

  • Fosters a conducive environment with a diversified team.

  • Recruits, retains, and develops the associates in the plant to achieve positive efficient results.

  • Provides coaching and corrective action promptly, to ensure that poor performers are identified, documented and improved to acceptable performance, or released.

  • May load cylinders onto vehicles manually or with the aid of material handling equipment.

  • Operates a forklift and other equipment as required to move material.

  • Transfers plant cylinders to different buildings using a forklift or hand cart.

  • Performs backup duties for other employees during vacations and other periods of personnel shortage.

  • All employees are expected to perform any reasonable work request that falls within the qualifications but not specifically described.

Required Education

  • High school degree or the equivalent preferred, with two to three years related experience in similar industry and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Length & Type of Experience:

  • Minimum of three to five years industry related experience and/or training.

  • Experience and working knowledge of cylinder fill operations or similar industrial production industry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be proficient in operation of forklift and maintain appropriate forklift certifications.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours and meet customer needs.

  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrates a clear and effective speaking manner for the purpose of explaining information to customers and employees.

  • Experience leading teams in a production environment.

  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and operate in a drug-free workplace.
