JOB SUMMARY
The Portfolio Manager within the Information Technology Department plays a critical strategic role in aligning technology initiatives with the institution's broader clinical, research, and educational goals. This individual is responsible for overseeing the processes to select, prioritize, and govern a portfolio of IT projects and ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and portfolios deliver maximum value. The portfolio manager collaborates with executive leadership, department heads, and other portfolio stakeholders to assess project proposals, manage risk, and monitor performance metrics. In the complex environment of an academic medical center, where patient care, research innovation, and academic excellence converge, the portfolio manager ensures that IT investments support institutional priorities, are financially viable, and are executed efficiently across diverse stakeholder groups. Please note, this position is a temporary role with the option of permanent hire in future.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Experience and Education
    * Bachelor's Degree plus ten (10) years of experience with project, program, and portfolio management.
  • Master's degree preferred).


JOB DUTIES



  • Responsible for overseeing and managing the portfolio management process for the entire IT project portfolio.
  • Responsible for the intake process of new project ideas and demands.
    Lead the process of portfolio planning and prioritization, ensuring alignment with strategic and operational goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the assessment of new project proposals and determine their fit within the portfolio based on risk, business goals, cost, strategic value, resources, and skill availability.
  • Identify potential risks within the portfolio and develop proactive strategies to mitigate or resolve them.
  • Monitor the ongoing health of the portfolio, addressing issues or obstacles that could affect project delivery or organizational goals.
  • Develop a structured approach for keeping stakeholders informed, engaged and aligned while respecting defined organizational change management practices.
  • Continuously assess and adjust the portfolio to ensure alignment with evolving strategic and operational goals.
  • Establish portfolio performance metrics through dashboards and scorecards, analyze trends and ensure compliance and audit readiness.
  • Educate and coach senior leaders on how to effectively manage their portfolios.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
