Job Description

This position performs stacks management to make space improvements for student learning and study. Tasks include analyzing and compiling lists in Excel and data-entry into a database. They also include more physical tasks such as pulling, boxing, tubbing, sorting, and shifting journals, books, and other materials. The position reports to the Library Information Specialist Sr for Shelving.

Key Job Duties:

  • Performs varied tasks in a library setting.
  • Assembles boxes.
  • Reviews spreadsheets and organizes information. For instance, this position might compare MU Library print holdings with a list of titles in a new electronic collection. They will pull and process the items that appear on both lists.
  • Records progress in database or in other project management tool.
  • Corresponds with stakeholders within MU Libraries and beyond.
  • Processes materials for surplus.
  • Packages and mails materials to partner libraries.
  • Focuses on completing work effectively, efficiently, and in a timely fashion.
  • Assists LIS in completing reports.
  • Other related tasks as assigned.
Shift

20 hours per week, primarily daytime shifts.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Experience shelving Library of Congress call numbers desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully perform detailed work and effective organization, time management, and prioritizing skills. Strong sense of organization and attention to detail.

NOTE: This position is required to move wheeled book trucks weighing up to 50 pounds; shelve materials in alphanumeric order with occasional use of foot stools and/or ladders; work at a desk and/or in front of a computer screen for up to 8 hours a day; and must be able to withstand some exposure to mold and dust.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Grade: GGS-005
