Job Description

The University of Missouri's Division of Research, Innovation & Impact (RII), in partnership with the Office of Human Resources, seeks a motivated and service-oriented Human Resources Consultant to provide dedicated HR support to departments and offices within RII. This position will be based onsite at Rock Quarry serving as the primary HR contact for designated units and providing backup support to other HR professionals within RII.

This individual will also serve as the primary RII contact responsible for the coordination and processing visa requests, working closely with the Office of International Students and Scholars and other relevant university offices to ensure accurate and timely immigration support for international employees and visiting scholars.

You will join a collaborative and supportive HR team, providing day-to-day consultation and guidance to leaders, managers, and staff throughout the division. Key Duties Performed by This Position Include:

Recruiting & Onboarding
In partnership with the Recruitment Center of Expertise (COE):
* Serve as liaison between Recruitment and Hiring Managers as needed
* Support various stages of the recruitment and selection process, including job postings, screening, interview coordination, and hiring documentation
* Coordinate and implement onboarding programs and department-specific orientations
* Track new employee progress during the first six months of employment
* Serve as RII's primary HR lead for processing J-1 and H-1B visa applications, ensuring compliance with University and federal policies and timelines

Employee Relations
* Provide guidance to supervisors and staff on routine employee relations matters, referring complex or sensitive issues to senior HR colleagues when appropriate
* Attend and support performance or conduct-related meetings, including disciplinary conversations and offboarding
* Assist managers with performance improvement plans and coaching resources

Compensation and Classification
* Collaborate on the development and revision of job descriptions and position classifications
* Support pay change requests and provide input during reclassifications in collaboration with the HR COE
* Assist in completing Position Classification Questionnaires (PCQs)

HR Programs, Policy, and Compliance
* Interpret and communicate University HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with federal/state laws and University regulations
* Recommend improvements to HR processes and workflows
* Track and report key HR metrics and activities
* Support the division's efforts to maintain a positive and inclusive work environment

Operational Knowledge
* Demonstrates knowledge of academic, higher education operations
and campus operating structures (e.g., college, school, department, etc.)
* Understands how to navigate complex employee populations and organizational systems, while taking a consultative approach to providing insights on how best to manage people-related needs
* Demonstrates understanding of key HR trends / leading practices and when to leverage Center of Expertise for guidance and support
* Demonstrates and ensures compliance with human resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations for employee relations, equal employment opportunity, inclusion and retention programs.

This position requires reliable, onsite attendance.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm occasional nights and weekends

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Higher Education, or related field.
Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR).
5+ years of progressively responsible HR experience, preferably in a higher education, academic research, or scientific/technical environment.
Demonstrated experience supporting faculty and staff across diverse disciplines, including STEM fields.
Proven ability to advise supervisors and employees on employment best practices, conflict resolution, and organizational effectiveness strategies.
Familiarity with federal employment laws and compliance issues related to grant-funded positions (e.g., NIH/NSF-funded roles).
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust and maintain confidentiality.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $52,915.20 - $65,000.00 per year
